[C1118]Costa Rica Fishing Trip
by Dane Masters, Dan
One of the first things you must do to plan a great fishing trip is to identify your priorities. You need to be more specific than just saying you want great fishing. Great fishing may mean different things to each person in your fishing party.
One person in your group may be content with 20 fish a day, while one might anticipate that many in only one hour. So to avoid conflict, you need to set your priorities beforehand.
Let's access some of the most important things to ponder when choosing your fishing vacation.
The type of fish you want to grab?
This is of course obvious, but has to be discussed. One person may try to fish for walleye and northern pike, while others may go in for bass fishing. As a lot of northern lakes have very cold water for bass, you may finish at a lake that will really let down the bass fisherman.
Action or Prestige?
Some trollers simply take pleasure in grabbing lots of fish with the hope of acquiring a few big ones. Other fishers give up grabbing a huge quantity of fish for a catch of the largest fish they can find. You have to settle on which is more significant to your fishing group... heaps of fish which are not big or lesser number but a good opportunity of a big one.
It should be noted that there are many places where you can do both... catch lots of fish and get some big ones. But, these tend to be at the more remote and pricey lodges and are not always feasible for many fishing groups.
Mode of Trapping Your fish?
Do you prefer streams? Deep water? Or to troll?
We've seen people trolling in 60 feet of water thinking the fish were only a few feet from the surface. Not much chance of catching anything this way. Be sure you know the type of fishing your group prefers and that the lake will offer it.
How much can you spend?
How much your budget allows you to spend will greatly affect your trip. Although everyone wants to be comfortable, make sure that you are truthful with yourself.
How much can you really spend? Can you be comfortable in a tent or a shack if the lake has amazing fishing?
Or would you favor staying at a more up market fishing lodge?
Do you prefer to cook yourself, or have someone do it for you?
And what about shower facilities? Are you willing to use a community shower or do you want a private shower and bath in your own cabin. Gentlemen, if you're taking your spouse on this trip, make absolutely sure you consider this one! If you don't, it could spoil an otherwise great trip.
Other things to consider would be how long your trip will be and the kinds of fish you want to hunt. A trip at a fishing lodge with bass and pan fish will be far more affordable than a vacation in Alaska or Canada for arctic char.
In conclusion, if you want a memorable fishing trip, begin planning these aspects of your trip. If done correctly, you could have a truly amazing fishing experience.
