Wedding favors go back many centuries. Traditionally they were almonds given in little decorative boxes or fabric wraps. Confectionary was a favorite with royalty & the upper classes & originates from a time when sugar was expensive & considered a luxury item.
Cookies can be made in virtually any shape, size & color combination you want. You can match them to your wedding theme, style & colors with great ease. There is also a great choice for the cookie itself ranging from plain to chocolate chip & beyond. Being relatively inexpensive also makes them a popular choice for wedding favors.
Today's brides are becoming very creative & imaginative with their choice of favors, with many choosing gifts that are a reflection of the couples own personality & tastes. Cookies also provide a flexibility that many other favors cannot offer. Icing them with the guest's names can turn them into place cards as well as favors or create edible centerpieces by making cookie lollipops or hanging them from branches with ribbon.
Make your cookies into hearts, flowers or something else in line with you theme, insert a lollipop stick, ice them & arrange them within your flower arrangements. Or you could use them to decorate your cake. You could even create cookie favor boxes in gingerbread & fill them with chocolates or some other delight.
Make miniature gourmet cookies in an assortment of flavors & present in stylish boxes. If you can't make your own, you can buy gourmet cookies at a range of outlets & in bulk from specialist stores. Popular gourmet cookie varieties include Danish shortbreads, fortune cookies & Mexican wedding cookies. Fortune cookies give you the option to personalize the fortune with your own message or fortune.
If you want custom made cookies, ask your local bakery or go online for a specialist website offering this service. Custom cookies are typically frosted sugar cookies cut into your desired shape. Usual shapes are wedding cakes, bride & groom, wedding bells & dresses, flowers & hearts. They can be simply iced or decorated with intricate details in two or three colors. You can even have them iced with your wedding monogram or a special message from your both to your guests. Obviously the more features, decorations or flavor of cookie will affect the price, with an average price being $5 per cookie, but you may find them cheaper for bulk quantities. Making them yourself will be cheaper again.
Another great idea for your cookie favors is the addition of a photograph onto them. It is possible to print edible photographs onto baked goods. Do some research online to find a bakery that can offer this for you, as you shouldn't try this at home!
The giving of cookies as wedding favors offers the creative bride endless possibilities, with only limits being her imagination!
If you just want, "A Wedding," then perhaps a cookie cutter wedding is the way to go. It is, after all, easy. As a matter of fact, there are wedding facilities available, and not just in Las Vegas or Reno, that provide everything you expect - that is as long as you expect a white dress, black tux, a smattering of flowers, a standard white wedding cake (that might even be artificial so they can reuse it), and a few pictures. If that is all the celebration your wedding deserves, then a cookie cutter wedding is probably for you.
But...
If you want a wedding that truly celebrates your new life together then you want to get away from a cookie cutter wedding - as far away from it as possible.
To do so, requires planning and planning a wedding requires thought. It is not hard work, but it is not easy either. Especially, since, in most cases the weddings that little girls grow up dreaming of are little more than cookie cutter weddings.
This is natural. Often a young girl is dazzled by the first wedding she sees, which more often than not is no different than the past fifty that have happened in that community. That is why they are called cookie cutter weddings.
It is also, in my experience, one of the reasons that grooms have no interest in being involved in the planning of the wedding - because a cookie cutter wedding does not actually involve planning, it involves scheduling. And since he did not grow up dreaming of his wedding, he wants to plan, not simply schedule but knows from the experience of life that he will probably not be given that opportunity.
But the marriage of two unique individuals deserves a celebration that is individualized to match their blended personality. Maybe it will be elegant. Maybe it will be fun loving. Maybe the ceremony and reception will be adventurous in some way. That is something the couple must decide.
What do you do if all you can afford seems to be a cookie cutter wedding format? Simple. Have fun with it. Why not play with the idea and create a theme out of it?
Give cookie cutter wedding favors to your guests, to complement the pizza sized warm chocolate chip cookies brought to every table in place of the wedding cake. Occupy any children at your wedding reception with the opportunity to decorate small baked treats to take home after the celebration. If you are really daring, you could even have someone create cookie bouquets for you and your bridesmaids to carry - but then again, maybe that is going a bit too far. Still, it would create a memorable cookie cutter wedding - that will be anything but!
