[D434]Discount Used Auto Parts
by Joseph Welusz, Jos
You can now get discount auto insurance based on the total amount of miles you drive. It is starting to spread across the country. This underlying thought has been around for a for a long while but now insurance carriers are beginning to initiate the program. The next opportunity you get to get auto insurance quotes see if it is available.
The concept was first introduced on the west coast as a pilot discount auto insurance program and it was just recently been approved for New Jersey through Progressive insurance. There is only one more company currently I am aware of that offers auto insurance quotes like this; GMAC Insurance who only has it available to those who have Onstar in there vehicles.
Progressive insurance will attached a devise to you car to monitor the speed at which you drive, your breaking habits and mileage totals. GMAC's Onstar includes GPS tracking devise but I'm not aware of how they calculate your driving habits. This causes concerns to many people.
Many government lawmakers and non-profit organizations have questions around the way the insurance companies will be monitoring there insured. Some feel by inserting one of these types of devises to your automobile you may be giving up some constitutional freedoms. Another greater concern is that people that live in country will not be able to benefit from this program because they have to drive further daily than people that live in cities.
You can receive a discount on your automobile insurance as high as 9% over people that don't part take in the program. One of my concerns is how much your auto insurance premium will increase if your driving behavior doesn't fit the auto insurance company norm. Also how does the insurance company determine what is the correct breaking pressure?
A concern of mine is if this program is picked by all the main insurance carriers in the future if you don't part take in the program will your premiums automatically increase. I understand the insurance company's point of view of offering lower rates to more responsible drivers that do not drive that far but years down the road how will this affect all of us?
This program was released in New Jersey on August 8th of 2008. Let's see how long it will take to be available in all states. It will also be interesting to see what other insurance companies adopt a similar program.
I believe it should be your decision to make if you want to participate in a program like this. You know how you drive and how far you drive. I am totally open to the concept but I am a little weary about how they might track my driving habits and what they are compared too.

You won’t be stuck with paying high rates for auto insurance year after year when you look for ways to save money. Discount auto insurance is available when you know what to look for. Take a look at your renewal statement for your auto insurance to see how much money you are paying for the various types of coverage.

One of the things you should check is the amount of deductible on your policy. This refers to the amount of money that you would have to pay to have repairs done to your vehicle or the vehicle of another driver if you are at fault in an accident. The lower that this deductible is, the higher your insurance premiums will be. Choosing a higher amount of deductible will give you a discount on your auto insurance.

Even though the base cost of the policy doesn’t change, you can save money by paying the auto insurance in one lump sum when it is time to renew. When you pay out your insurance monthly, you pay additional costs in financing charges, which are often quite high. By eliminating these charges, you are in effect getting a discount compared to the total you paid in previous years. You can save a little each month so that you have the money available on the renewal date or you can put away your income tax refund to make the insurance payment.

Ask your insurance agent if the company provides any discounts for age and safe driving records. If you do have a safe driving record, then you are in the prime position for receiving cheap auto insurance (). This is one of the main factors used in determining the cost of your insurance premiums. If you have a record of several accidents, then the insurance provider sees you as a bad risk and will charge you a higher rate.

Teenage drivers who do have a good academic record are seen as responsible individuals may receive a discount. Many insurance providers provide a discount when you add your teenage son or daughter to your policy when they demonstrate that they have a grade of “B” or higher in their high school subjects. If teenagers take driving lessons from driving schools, this also qualifies for a discount on insurance. Even if you have a record of being at fault in several accidents and enhance your driving skills by taking such courses, you can also qualify for a lower rate.

The longer you have been driving affects the amount of money you have to pay for your annual policy. Those who have not been driving very long will pay a higher rate and those who have not had auto insurance in their own name will also be charged more. When you first start driving, it is helpful if your name is added to a policy so that you do have a record of having had insurance. This will make it easier for you to get discounts in the future when you purchase a vehicle.

With the many insurance providers that have an online presence, it is easier than ever before to save money with discount auto insurance () simply by searching online. You can browse the sites of these providers to find out their rates and the various types of policies that they offer. By requesting free quotes from several providers, you can then take your time to compare the prices and terms to find a policy that best suits your needs.
