*What 'Remanufactured' Is All About*
A remanufactured cartridge is basically an original cartridge that's been taken apart and outfitted with fresh ink and new parts. Quite frankly, definitions for the term remanufactured can vary from one company to the next. But for the most part, the process involves inspecting and replacing key components like the OPC (organic photoconductor drum). Other parts like the wiper blade, magnetic roller, corona wire assembly and PCR (primary charge roller) all call for a replacement on an 'as-needed' basis.
Most companies employ high standards when they produce remanufactured cartridges. As such, the lifespan of a remanufactured cartridge is typically the same as the original and is safe to use for all kinds of printers. In fact, if you plan to try printer supplies other than OEM, many recommend starting with remanufactured cartridges. After all, they are produced from OEM parts.
*Some 'Remanufactured' History*
Cartridge recycling and remanufacturing started between the 1980s and the early 1990s. At that time, many firms saw an easy way to make a buck and didn't properly remanufacture printer cartridges. Most of them used the “drill and fill” method to refill empty cartridges, often without taking the necessary steps to properly take apart, refit, clean and reassemble them. As such, many early customers simply got frustrated over such poor product quality.
Luckily, printer cartridge remanufacturing has since improved with companies applying the highest standards in terms of testing and quality control. There is also truly a great intent to promote environmental causes with remanufactured cartridges. So try them out!
