[A258]Advanced Search Engine Optimization
by Tyler James Ellison, Tyl
The header tags are considered some of the most important tags on the page, so be sure to use them. Instead of using a font code to boost the size of text on a line, use the H1, H2, and H3 tags where you can. Including your keywords in the header tags makes your site match as more relevant in the search engines. There are header tags all the way down to H6, but rarely are they used. The most common are the H1, H2, and H3 tags and those will really be enough.

Where you place your text can make a big difference. If you format your page using tables and you keep your text to the left, the keywords in that text appear lower down on the page and therefore not as relevant. By formatting your text to be on the left side, your keywords appear closer to the top of the HTML document and therefore more relevant. This difference is subtle, but may be just the edge you need to outrank your competition.

It's important to spread the keywords throughout the entire page. They should appear at the beginning of the page, the middle, and the bottom. That means don't put all your eggs in one basket, or only include the keywords at the beginning of your article. This is easy to do when you have lots of content to work with, but a bit more challenging when you have little text because you want the text to be well written stuff for humans to read. Find a balance with including the keyword often to attract the attention of the search engine spiders without attracting too much attention from humans.

The navigation through the pages on your site is also extremely important. Perhaps you thought that including a list of link to all the pages of the site was for your convenience? It's for that too, but it's also so that the search engine spiders find all the other pages of the site. The text that appears in these links should be the keywords you want that page to rank for because that's the best way to help a page rank well.

A little known trick you can use to throw in some more keywords without humans seeing anything is the title tags of links. This is simply accomplished by inserting the word "title=", followed by your keywords and enclosed with quotation marks, inside the "A" tag. Your visitors won't see those keywords but the search engine spiders will.

The whole purpose of working on your pages should be to make your content relevant to what people are looking for and ensuring that the search engines know it too. By understanding a little bit of how the language and code works, you'll be able to accomplish that much more easily than if you tried loading your meta tags with keywords. Make your sites friendly to search engines and human visitors and you will see incredible returns on your efforts.

Start with Keyword Research!
When it comes to planning for a new website, the first thing you need to think about is researching for the keywords which are best fitted to your website. Keywords are the words that the visitors input into the search engines in order to get information for which they are looking for. The majority of the website visitors are generated from search engines and it is one of the most effective and consistent source of large pool of free targeted visitors and in order to achieve this targeted visitors you need to do keyword research. You must try to find out a keyword that has good search volume and at the same time that has least competition, but to find out such a good keyword is really a difficult work; however there are online tools available such as seo2020.com which will definitely help you a lot in finding out effective keywords.

Once you have researched and selected the keywords and developed the website, you can go on for publishing it. After publishing the website, there are few more steps that you need to follow in order to enhance the visibility of your website in all the major search engines.

Check for Keyword Density
You should check for keyword density and try to keep it within 1% to 3% only, you can get keyword density analyzer at keyworddensity.com.

Add a Sitemap HTML as well as XML Sitemap
Once you have finished with above steps, you should now consider incorporating a sitemap. Sitemap helps your visitors to get an idea about the structure of your website as well as it provides search engine spider a path to all the inner relevant webpages of the website to get indexed. The sitemap also provide information to search engine spiders about updated content and modification of webpage along with date, month etc so adding a sitemap to your website is thus essential. A sitemap can be incorporated in two versions, the HTML version for the visitors, and the XML version for the search engine spider. For creating sitemap, you can use tools like free sitemap generator tools at xml-sitemaps.com. This tool will help you to create both HTML and XML sitemaps, which you should upload to the root of your website server.

Validate Your Web pages
After uploading the sitemaps, you should check your website against valid HTML and CSS. Validation is very much essential for a good quality website.
You can do HTML validation tools at validator.w3.org and CSS validation at jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/
Now, if your website validates well, you should now put your website for reviews in different forums. If there is anything wrong, either in design or layout or in content, which you have not notices, there is every possibility that someone else will notice it, thus you get a scope to improve the quality of your website.
Now you may proceed further for search engine submission and directory submissions in order to promote your website.

Check for dead or broken links
Once your site is up and running, apart from adding new content periodically, it is a nice idea to check for dead or broken links. The tool that is really helpful for checking broken or dead link is dead-links.com.
If you find a dead or broken link, simply remove that as those links will reduce the credibility of your website as a whole with respect to the visitors and also to the search engines.
