[D17]Dancing With The Stars Tour
by Groshan Fabiola, Gro
Dancing with the Stars has proven to be more than just a hit reality competition, but has also received positive comments from participants. In fact, most of them have nothing to say except positive things of their experiences both on the road and on the show. In fact, actor Joey Lawrence and professional dance partner Edyta Sliwinska, who have been part of the tour for three consecutive seasons since 2006, has sat down with TVGuide to let us in on their experiences on the production.

In the interview, Lawrence explained his reasons why he kept signing up for the tour. He said, "Because they treat us great. They give us a beautiful ride [to] travel across the country. The bus is just incredible. It's just a big party out there. It's fun."

Lawrence, who has previously appeared on shows Gimme A Break and Blossom, said that it is appealing that the show gave him a chance to travel the country "in a whole new light."

As for the tour, both Lawrence and Sliwinska believe that it is a more mentally tiring yet amusing challenge that they enjoy, as they don't face as much pressure as they do during the competition itself. The pair enjoys the appreciation from the fans and viewers, and the volume of people who actually make the effort to come out and see them perform.

"On the show, even though it's a smaller room, you feel the magnitude of what you're doing. You see the people in the audience," Lawrence explained. "And it's a lot larger in terms of the number of people. When there are 7,000 or 10,000 people, it's just loud. And there are lots of lights, so you don't see anyone and it becomes one big blur. Edyta and I just go out there and we do our thing. And at the end, you hear the applause and it's awesome. 10,000 people make a lot of noise."

Sliwinska has been part of all five seasons of Dancing with the Stars, but she has not confirmed whether she's going in for the sixth, which begins on March 17.

"We only find out two weeks before the training starts. We're released from our contract if we're not picked up for the show. But I love the show," she said. "It's kind of comfortable to have [dancers] who know what they're doing, and then once in a while, to bring in a new [pro] dancer."

Speed skater Apolo Anton Ohno is a multitalented dancer and skater as he has won two Olymipc gold medals and the Dancing with the Stars season 4 win under his name. Recently, he decided to put his talents to use as he joined the Dancing with the Stars-The Tour while getting ready for the 2010 Winter Olympics.

Hailing from Federal Way, Washington, the 25-year-old athlete was slated to appear on five different legs of the tour, which began in Austin, Texas on June 20th. On Saturday, the tour was at Raleigh, North Carolina, where Ohno made his first appearance. On Monday and Tuesday, the tour headed for Hershey, Pennsylvania and Bridgeport, Connecticut, respectively.

"After the show, I started training again for the Olympics but realized quickly that I couldn't go on without at least one more week of samba," Anton Ohno said in a statement to People Magazine.

Ohno was a contestant on season 4 of the highly-watched Dancing with the Stars, and on the show, he was a tough contender as he eventually emerged victorious. His performance of the Samba with his partner professional ballroom dancer and television celebrity Julianne Hough made the couple the first to score a perfect 30/30 in their batch. This performance launched even more success for them in the competition as they earned two more perfect scores before the final round. During the finals, the couple had to compete with Laila Ali and her partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy, and Joey Fatone whose partner was Kym Johnson. They eventually earned two more perfect scores, thus was hailed as the winners of the fourth season of Dancing with the stars.

As Ohno has dedicated his time for the tour, he pointed out that he is still training for the next Winter Olympics and sees that activity as high priority. He will be concluding his part in the tour this week, as they are heading to the final two stops, Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, on Thursday, July 5th and Atlantic City, New Jersey on Friday, July 6th.

Dancing with the Stars returns this fall, premiering on Monday, September 24 at 8pm.
