Unicorns and puppies probably aren't going to cut it anymore as her taste changes with age and peer pressure. Your daughter wants a cool looking room. Why not give her a modern area rug that will bring out the colors you've painted the walls—yes, you will probably be painting the walls—and brings a cohesive feel to the room that both you and your daughter can agree on. When you're decorating your teenage daughter's bedroom, the worst thing you can do is try to make decisions for her. It's very important that you give your daughter the opportunity to express her individual style in every element of the room, without letting her go overboard, of course.
