Everybody knows that fat is essential to our body because it is a very big source of energy. However, you can get your energy from other substances besides fat, which in higher quantities is very bad for your organism. It especially affects the circulation of the blood, because it raises the levels of cholesterol in your blood, which can lead to heart attacks.
The type of diets suggested in this article have as purpose reducing the amount of fat and cholesterol in your body up to the required level. Both these diets have as goal decreasing the dietary fat and cholesterol, limit the intake of sodium, increase the quantity of fiber in your diet and lower the amount of calories, in order to reach a normal weight. The amount of calories that one should get every day is about 1100 for women and around 1400 for men.
Now, for better understanding what has to be done, we must first find out what cholesterol is. First thing to know is that blood is pumped by the heart and dilivered to all the body through arteries. The role of the blood, amongst other thing, is to carry oxygen and nutrients throughout your body. When your level of cholesterol reached a certain point above normal, the unnecessary cholesterol is left behind, remaining in the arteries. Throughout the years the cholesterol left behind forms a waxy substance which hardens or even blocks the flow of the blood. Organs than are very likely to become damaged.
Another thing to know is that cholesterol is made by two sources. The first one is the liver, which produces all the necessary quantity of cholesterol that your body will ever need. The second source of cholesterol is by eating animal products, such as meat, milk, eggs and many more. So, in order to keep the cholesterol level within normal limits, one should reduce the dietary cholesterol.
Another way of reducing your blood cholesterol levels is by eating as less saturated fats as possible. The saturated fats are those who stay solid at the room temperature. There also are some vegetables whose fats act like the saturated fats that I have told you before, therefor they should be avoided. Those vegetable fats are cocoa butter, palm oil and coconut oil.

A few months ago I happened to watch a TV infomercial for a product called "Rice 'N Shine" where Patty McPeak, CEO of Nutracea, spoke at length about the benefits of Rice 'N Shine as a "heart healthy" meal replacement drink. Ms. McPeak said that the processes for producing the stabilized rice bran, a key ingredient in Rice 'N Shine, and the health benefits of rice bran itself, had a number of patents from the U.S. Patent Office. Being a naturally curious person, I thought it would be interesting to see exactly what these claims are and why I should care.
Caution: Science Speak In Following Paragraph
The first patent I looked up for stabilized rice bran was Patent Number 6126943. It shows the following abstract description: "A method for reducing mammalian serum total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, apolipoprotein B and triglyceride levels, by ingesting a stabilized rice bran derivative selected from the group consisting of an enzyme treated stabilized rice bran, an insolubilized fraction and mixtures thereof, thereby reducing serum total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, apolipoprotein B and triglyceride levels in the mammal." Well, that all sounds very impressive but what does it really mean?
Back To Normal Speak
Picking apart that sentence and replacing the scientific and legal speak with words anyone can understand, I come up with the following lay translation. But first I must say that none of these statements, and no statements anywhere in this article, are intended to diagnose or treat any medical condition; and my translation adds the word "may" even though this word is not present in the official patent language. Here goes: "People who consume products containing stabilized rice bran may reduce their total serum cholesterol, reduce their low density lipo-protein (LDL) cholesterol, reduce their apolipoprotein B (small, dense LDL particles, as measured by apo B, are more commonly present in persons with coronary artery disease), and reduce their triglyceride levels (high levels of which are associated with people who have an increased risk of heart disease, are at an increased risk of stroke, who have diabetes or who are obese.)
Bottom line is that folks who consume products containing stabilized rice bran (such as Rice 'N Shine) may reduce their risk of coronary heart disease, reduce their risk of cholesterol clogged arteries, reduce their risk of stroke, and may also contribute to reducing the risk of diabetes.
Patent Summary (Caution: More Science Speak)
The patent is quite interesting reading for the supporting detail of the claims being made, of which there are 26 in all. The summary of the invention is perhaps the most interesting of all: "It has now been surprisingly found that stabilized rice bran derivatives reduce serum total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, apolipoprotein B and triglyceride levels in mammals. As such, the present invention provides a method for reducing mammalian serum total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, apolipoprotein B and triglyceride levels, by ingesting a stabilized rice bran derivative such as, enzyme treated stabilized rice bran, an insolubilized fraction and mixtures thereof, thereby reducing serum total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, apolipoprotein B and triglyceride levels. In one embodiment, the derivative is administered in an amount of about 10 grams to about 100 grams per day total in at least 2 doses."
Even More Surprising (Back To Normal Speak)
Now what's even more surprising is that this information is nowhere to be found in the mainstream media, you've probably never heard anything about it from your doctor, and had I not stumbled on that infomercial I would have never learned of it either. So the U.S. Patent Office has awarded a number of patents on health claims made by a small startup company and yet at the beginning of the infomercial there was the required disclaimer that "The Food and Drug Administration has not evaluated the following statements?" and "These statements are not intended to diagnose or treat any conditions?" blah blah blah. So the U.S. Patent Office has done its due diligence and awarded a patent to a company producing a health food supplement that has all sorts of really good health benefits and yet the U.S. Food and Drug Administration won't let the company publicize the claims. Do you detect anything wrong with this picture?
Well, I've drawn my own conclusions and that's why I've written this article. I was so disturbed about this information being ignored by the mainstream media when heart disease is the number one killer in America that I became an authorized seller of stabilized rice bran products including Rice 'N Shine, FlexProtex capsules, and FlexProtex Cream. In case you haven't seen the infomercials for these products, I've made them available for viewing as well at my online store HealthSecrets411. Please come take a look and get some detailed information on these stabilized rice bran products that I'm certain you haven't seen anywhere else.
