[D294]Diet What To Eat
by Wong Darren, Won
(1) What to Eat?

Fiber is extremely effective in cleansing the body. It makes for smooth food travel along the intestines as well as easy elimination of fecal matter. Fiber can be found in most vegetables but to take advantage of high fiber content, it is best to eat them raw. Salad greens are a great example of a high fiber meal.

Other vegetables that contain fiber include potatoes, carrots, broccoli, cabbage and turnips. Fresh fruit also contain fiber as well as some dried varieties such as apricots, raisins and prunes. Whole grain foods such as oatmeal, whole wheat bread and bran cereal as well as beans, nuts and seeds are also good sources of fiber.

Of course, adequate fluid intake is an essential part of any diet. Water and fresh fruit juices are best for keeping the body clean.

Now not all bacteria inside the body are bad for you. You actually need some of them to have good health. These friendly bacteria are particularly beneficial to the digestive system. Fermented foods such as miso, kefir sauerkraut and yogurt help refresh the supply of good bacteria that may have been flushed out of the body.

Raw egg yolk and yeast flakes are two of the most nutritious foods that you can eat. They contain many vitamins and minerals vital to maintaining health.

If you must fry your food, use extra virgin olive oil. And if you need extra help in keeping your colon in good working condition, you can always use supplements. Probiotics help restore the healthy bacteria that are lost in cleansing. Vitamin C will help restore your strength after you've undergone a cleansing procedure as you will likely feel drained of energy.

(2) What Not to Eat?

If you are to maintain a healthy body there are certain foods that you must cut down on or even avoid altogether. Cut down on meat, especially of the red variety. You can still get your protein from fish or poultry.

Avoid processed foods as these have usually undergone some form of chemical processing that are harmful and that have stripped the food of essential nutrients. Many of them have high amounts of saturated fats, sodium and sugar which can lead to illness. Some examples of processed foods are canned food, instant noodles, junk food like chips and cookies, high-sugar cereal, hotdogs, frozen meals and pastas made of refined flour.

Try to avoid eating at fast food restaurants. Most of the food served are unhealthy due to high salt and oil content and have harmful ingredients.

There are also certain beverages that may do more harm than good to your system. Too much carbonated drinks such as sodas and alcoholic beverages have negative effects on colon health. If you are to start a colon cleansing regimen, coffee and black tea should be avoided too. Pasteurized milk is also on the list of beverages to avoid.

Colorectal Cancer prevention and diet really have a lot in common.
Your colon and rectum are responsible for lots of factors regarding nutrient absorption, water management and elimination of waste.
You don't need a scientist to specifically tell you that garbage in is equivalent to garbage out. Let us hear what these experts have to say regarding this matter.
In the studies of colorectal cancer prevention and diet, it has discovered that red and processed meats were its major contributor. Unfortunately, many doctors in France were not convinced with its "existing evidence" and decided to do a more comprehensive study.
They started to follow 478,040 men and women for almost five years, before they finally concluded that red and processed meat is positive as cause for colon cancer, and eating fish is can reduced a person's risk. [Journal of the National Cancer Institute, Vol. 15;97:906-16]
There were many researches involving omega 3 oil, that explains intake of fish can reduce the risk for colorectal cancer.
Doctors that were associated with New York University Women's Health Study monitored 14,727 women for 7 years. They have found "a progressive decline in the risk for colorectal cancer by increasing intake of fish and shellfish."
They actually found more. There is a similar decline in the risk for women who have been inversely proportionate to the amount of calcium they consume. This means that women who ate most calcium had the lowest risk.
As for this concern, they were not certain about the red meat connection as of those doctors in France were. In fact, the doctors in NYU said that the association of red meat to colorectal cancer still, "remains unclear." [Nutrition & Cancer, Vol.28:276-81]
Also, a study out of Harvard suggests that it's not the read meat and fats which causes the problem but our "western" lifestyle itself.
They've mention that obesity, physical inactivity, a diet low in vegetables and fruits, while high in red meat and processed foods all contributes to one denominator of this lifestyle, which is high levels of insulin in the blood!
Researchers have explained that elevated blood insulin will "promote colon carcinogenesis" because insulin is a "growth factor" that will cause cellular division of epithelial cells in the colon. [Cancer Causes & Control, Vol. 6, No. 2:164-79]
Wondering what to do to the colorectal cancer prevention and diet? It's easy as a pie, just don't eat the pie.
Stick in eating whole foods, with lots of green vegetables, fresh fruits, whole grains, fiber rich foods, continuous use of unprocessed oils, intake of lean meat like fish and chicken, low fat dairy and lots of pure water.
The studies suggest that it's very important to cut down the alcohol, practice more of stress management and exercising regularly is a must.
With these guidelines, you not only reduce the risk for colorectal cancer, but you reduce the risk of other cancer, heart diseases and diabetes too. In addition, you will also improve you vim, vigor and vitality.
