It is easy to dismiss depression as weak minded or something that just doesn't affect you, however if you or someone you care about has ever suffered from depression, you know that depression is very real and often not something that will just go away. Depression has been portrayed in movies, t.v. and books since they were introduced to the world and is often the butt of the joke, but what does it mean today when we refer to a depression or a depressive disorder?
I find it very unfortunate that quite a number of people have not been told that depression, while potentially severe is a treatable illness and as such there is help available. More than just something that is in your head, it is very real and affecting at least one person you know right now. Behind heart disease it is the biggest reason for days off work in the United States which is quite an important fact. It has been known to tear families apart, which is a tragedy that may have been avoided. You need to understand what it is, the cause and how it actually affects you. So lets look at what it actually is, thats affecting so many lives
It was reported in a major medical study, that depression caused significant problems in the functioning of those affected more often than did arthritis, hypertension, chronic lung disease, and diabetes, and in two categories of problems, as often as coronary artery disease. Depression is not just "feeling blue" or "down in the dumps". It is a medical disorder as much as is diabetes, high blood pressure, or heart disease. It is something that day after day affects your thoughts, feelings, physical health, and whether you know it or not, your behavior.
Depressive disorder symptoms can affect the physical body as much as they can cause negative thoughts and moods. They are know to have an impact on bodily functions, causing irregular eating and sleeping patterns, sobbing spells, and decrease sex drive. If not looked at depression can actually increase the risk of HIV, asthma, and coronary artery disease to name a few. The biggest thing about depression is even if your not affected, you are at risk.
Depression seems to be much more prominent in affecting women than men, according to a number of studies. The cause of this unfortunately is still not clear. Not only do women seem to be more at risk but they tend to be more likely to try and simply work through the depression themselves. Now this can and does work, and is obviously a great outcome when this is the case, but it really does come down to the actual cause of it in the first place. What is also good news is that a depressive illness can be treated rather successfully in more then eighty percent of people suffering. It is still sad though that more people do not seek help, as even talking about it openly can make a massive impact.
If you feel that you are affected and are not getting the relief that you need. There is an all natural, herbal supplement called Thyromine which its makers claim can actually help to reduce or relieve those symptoms that you are battling with. Thyromine helps to increase the production of necessary thyroid hormones, while also stimulating the immune system, which can give possibly give you the relief you sorely need.
Sydney, which is the most populated city in Australia, is also the state capital of New South Wales and is built around Port Jackson. As a result, Sydney has some of the most amazing beaches in the world, including the world renown Bondi Beach. Although the city does not experience beach weather throughout the year, it does have opposite seasons of the United States. Therefore, when it is cold and freezing during the winter in the U.S., you can escape to the summer heat and acquire a natural tan in Australia.
In addition to tanning in Sydney, you will find a wide variety of attractions in the city. Perhaps the most famous attraction in Sydney is the Sydney Opera House, which was made into a UNESCO World Heritage Site on June 28, 2007. Harbour Bridge, which was listed in the Guinness World Records as the widest long-span bridge in the world as well as the highest steel arch bridge, is another must-see.
Sydney is also a multicultural melting pot. These cultures can be seen and enjoyed at the many festivals and events held each year in Sydney. The Sydney Film Festival and many other film festivals such as Flickerfest and Tropfest are held in the cit each year. The largest arts festival in Australia, the Sydney Festival, is also held there each year. Here, you can enjoy both indoor and outdoor performances throughout the month of January. So, you can take in the performances while also soaking up some rays and working on a great tan!
If you are ready to go indoors, you can check out one or several of the many museums Sydney has to offer. The biggest museum in Sydney is the Australian Museum, which is a museum of history and anthropology. If you are interested in technology, science, and design, you might be more interested in the Powerhouse Museum. If art is more your style, you can visit the Museum of Contemporary Art and the Art Gallery of New South Wales.
Sydney is an amazing city within an beautiful country. By visiting Sydney, you can take in exceptional cultural opportunities while also working on a deep, dark tan on the beautiful Sydney beaches.
