[D317]Different Sources Of Information
by Todd Lange, Tod
One of the main problems that have always existed with alcohol usage, wherever in the world it may be, is the high rate of denial among the patients. People who are with alcohol abuse will never want to accept that the quantum of alcohol that they use is beyond acceptable values. They will never want to consider that they need treatment for their alcohol habit. But at the same time, they will keep consuming more and more alcohol and go further into the habit and may even reach the point of no return. This is why it becomes very important to make alcoholics realize that they are in a serious physical and mental condition and the only way of bringing them out of this condition is to create an intervention program.

An intervention is when some external agency involves itself in making the person realize that they are with a particularly damaging condition to the mind or the body and that they need treatment. In the case of alcohol treatment, intervention becomes vitally significant because these patients will never want to get into treatment voluntarily.

Different groups of people can come together to provide intervention programs for alcoholic persons. The following are some of the intervention groups that usually work.

Family Intervention

This is by far the most popular kind of intervention that an alcoholic person might get. In any case, when someone is in an addiction, it is the family of the patient that is most significantly affected. Also, this becomes the most effective form of intervention because the family wields the highest influence on the addicted person.

When this intervention has to be implemented, a group of people from within the family will come forth. These people will be united by the common feeling that they need to motivate the patient to get into treatment. They will meet several times with each other before actually meeting the patient ensemble. During these meetings, they will decide what each person can contribute to the patient's treatment and how they will deliver this idea to the patient. Families will also try to emotionally induce the patient to get into treatment by emphasizing upon them how much they love them and how much they want them to be back in a completely addiction-free state with them.

When all members of the family have decided what they will say, they will meet with the patient. The patient will be then counseled individually by each of the intervention members and also in a group to get into treatment.

In most cases, family groups will use an intervention specialist to guide them on how they must go about the entire process. Having an intervention specialist is a good idea because these professionals will also guide families on the actual process of the treatment.

Workplace Intervention

This is becoming quite popular in recent times, especially since most state governments are making it obligatory for the employers to provide conducive circumstances for their employees to work in, and that also means health-wise. Through programs such as the Employer Assistance Programs, the employers can intervene in their employees' addiction treatments.

When an employer participates in an employee's addiction treatment, the main focus will be on making the person understand that their professional life is taking a tumble because of their dependency. Employers can opt to let their employees know that they can retain their jobs and even get some benefits if they manage to come out of their addictive habits.

For the employers, intervening in their employees' addiction treatment becomes a better option because they can save themselves the hassle and the cost of having to recruit and train another employee in their stead.

School and College Intervention

Most educational institutions are now becoming better aware of the addictions that are consuming some of their students. In previous times, when there were no resources in place, educational institutions would initially turn a blind eye towards their students with dependencies and would suspend them if matters went beyond a particular point. But now, these students are provided a very elaborate intervention process that helps them to get into treatment.

When educational institutions will find out that a particular student has an addiction, they will first determine what they have discovered and then will call the parents for a discussion on what can be done. With the help of the parents (or caretakers) of the students, they will plan an intervention that can convince the student to get into a method of treatment.

Many hearing aids users from time to time will find that they have lots of questions they want to ask and simply do not always have someone to turn to. For instance after the audiologist has gone through the basic setup and installation of the hearing aids procedures, they are not always available to answer every single question you have as a result of ongoing commitments in their busy and tenuous lives.
First of all let's be clear that your audiologist is the first person you should contact if you have any important questions. However in other cases when the urgency of your questions are not critically important, you should consult with another source.
In this case, the internet has made it increasingly easy to work with and corroborate information with individuals who are in or have been in similar situations as you. Though not a perfect medium, forums and newsgroups offer a way to reach out with other people who are on the same side of the fence as you with regards to issues pertaining to hearing aids and hearing loss issues in general.
Whether you use a forum or newsgroup, try to ask around members of your community if they have any recommended resources. Also if it's an online community, it's preferable if the forums are moderated by an expert or some authoritative voice to help weed out blatant advertising and other bits of information that is not conducive to providing real value to the community.
In many cases you will have questions that are very common and have been answered in some form or another. For more specialized questions, setup an appointment with your audiologist and be sure to prepare a list of your most pressing questions to ask him or her on the day of your appointment so that you can cover as many bases as possible.
