[D329]Different Types Of Fishing
by Bob Bastian, Bob
The art of casting is a very important skill in fly fishing. It requires gradual, synchronized movements. It helps to think of each movement, both the back cast in the forward cast, is divided into three steps. The first is loading, the second is the momentum of projection, and the third is the pause. It takes a lot of practice to master the art of casting in fly fishing.

There are several types of casts. The most common of these include the basic cast, false cast, side and reverse casts, roll cast, and double haul cast.

In fly fishing the easiest cast, called the basic cast, is simply casting the line straight back and then directly forward. Anyone new to fly fishing should master the basic cast before going on to other techniques. Use a short length of line to begin with if you are new to fly fishing. This will help you gain sufficient control of the line, while practicing short gentle movements.

The false cast is a variation of the basic cast. It consists of the same backward and forward movements as the basic cast, and is immediately followed by another set of the same movements. The fly line actually travels backward and forward repeatedly without touching the water. Practicing this type of cast helps to build precise timing that is required in fly fishing.

In fly fishing the side and reverse casts are generally used when wind is a problem. They are also used if there are obstacles that can make a regular cast difficult.

A roll cast is generally used if the fisherman finds himself with his back to such obstacles
as a high riverbank or a wall of vegetation. When these conditions exist, a basic cast is almost impossible. You need to let out a good length of line in front of you; it's best to let the current take it a short distance. The drag of the water on the line will load the rod, and you can cast forward without needing to execute the back cast.

Using a double haul cast in fly fishing will enable you to cast a much longer line than is possible with a basic cast. In order to do this you need to have a much faster line speed. This is done by making much larger casting movements, applying more strength, and loading the rod more before the forward cast. During this cast both hands of the fisherman must work independently.

The above five types of fly fishing casts are the ones used most often. There are many other types of casts also, including the S-cast, the parachute cast, and the mend cast.

Casting is the basic physical skill involved in fly fishing. Its purpose is to place the fly exactly where you want it to be, just like any other skill it takes practice. Accuracy and the delicacy of the presentation are very important when fly fishing. Mastering the basics of fly casting first will make it easier to move on to the more difficult casts.

There are some people that do not know the first thing about fishing, and some of them are women who are married to professional fishermen. They might think they have all of the necessary tools to catch fish, but these women would not think aobut asking their husbands for help, because they are fearful of looking quite stupid.

These women have been around fishing for all of their lives, yet they do not know how to judge one item from another when they begin to do all types of fishing products shopping. They know they should start with a basic rod and a reel, and are not quite sure where to go from there. They know they need line to put on a reel to bring a fish in, but they are not sure what weight it should be, or in what gear.

To find the types of fishing products shopping experts recommended, these professional fishermen women think they might find their way to their mass merchandising retailer. When the women step up to the counter and tell the salesmen their plight, the salesmen will typically, only just smile.

Since they were unable to find what they needed at the mass merchandising retailer, these pro fishermen wives instantly lured to spend the day reading Sports Illustrated. They chose instead to watch the sports fishermen's channel on cable television, and everything they said had been carefully recorded. All things went well for quite a while but when they started talking about the types of fishing products shopping that the women would need to do, that is when they got really worried.

The language they spoke was foreign to them, and some of these pro fishermen wives just did not understand. The confusion got worse when the hosts on the show started talking about plastic lures, plastic baits, plastic rattles and boats. At this point, these pro fishermen wives were expectantly digressed, they got completely lost and could not even guess.

They were confused about bait because from their faintest recollections, people fished with worms on a pole with some line. The types of fishing products shopping that was discussed were sizes and textures, and different designs in the baits, and some were inconvenient and others hard to take. The hooks that recessed from the heads, made some of these pro fishermen's wives sick at the sight.

Some of the fishing rods that they advertised were types of fishing products shopping that were even hard to manage. With the large buttons, the spinners and oh so many levers, these pro fishermen's wives knew if they tried to purchase something like that, it would take only minutes to find the lines tangled and in shambles.

The next thing that would happen is that they would be in tears, and would probably sit down and have a few beers. They thought they could do it, and make sense of it all, but the types of fishing products shopping they had to do, they knew they could not do. After careful reflection they finally decided, they would have to talk it over with their pro fisherman husbands that night at dinner.
