People seem prone to worry. We worry about things we can control and things over which we have no power. We worry about scary things like global warming and we worry about tiny things like a bad hair day that will not matter tomorrow; we worry about things that happened nine years ago, and we worry about things that may never happen. How much of our time is eaten up by this negative process!

Ironically, while modern technology has offered a myriad of opportunities and freedoms, it has at the same time ushered in a whole new type of sinister things to worry about. Now we can worry about cyber crimes such as having the digital security infiltrated at our lawyer's office or bank, having our identity stolen, having our privacy violated. There are even people working on protecting our nation from a digital "Pearl Harbor."

A recent internet search for "worry about digital security" turned up an impressive 334,000 articles. Clearly, this is something which is weighing heavily on our national psyche. If people cannot totally trust the technology they use, is it really freeing?

Digital security companies working on the problem have come up with a variety of ways to protect technology users from fraud, theft, and other crimes. The answers include software, external plug-ins, smart cards, electronic passports, and one-time passwords. Security providers are working to protect the individual at home, to guard the sensitive information of huge corporations, small business, and public entities which are increasingly leaning on technology, and to maintain national security.

Worrying about something is a futile pastime, being proactive is not. If digital security is weighing on your mind do not just lie in bed imaging horrible scenarios, do something about it. Find out how to protect yourself from cyber crime. Make digital security a priority.

Cyber crime is a reality of the modern world. Corporate, financial, and medical IT systems have been breached and personal information and sensitive business files stolen. National security has been threatened by ineffective prevention efforts. Personal identities have been taken by thieves who robbed their victims of everything. Digital security, therefore, is something with which people should familiarize themselves.

Included in this is mobile security. With the ability to carry laptops, mobile phones, and other handheld devices come many potential security risks, and every user should be aware of them. There is another old saying -- far more wise than the aforementioned saying -- that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Nothing could be smarter! How many thousands of victims are out there are berating themselves for allowing themselves to be so vulnerable when the crime against could have been easily prevented?

Security can be implemented, both on a corporate and personal level, by a combination of three things: education, policy, and the right tools. Learn all you can about digital crime and about the highest quality technologies to prevent it. These tools include software packages, exterior devices, better and better SIM cards, one-time passwords, and electronic passports which can be used to defend information and transactions. Make sure you are adequately protected by the latest security devices. Using your newly acquired knowledge about cyber crime, create policies for usage, and do not be lax about them.

Ignorance is not bliss, it is the gateway to a world of trouble. Do not set yourself up for disaster. Educate yourself on mobile security and you may boldly reap the benefits of modern technology.
