[D250]Diagnosed With Throat Cancer
by Petersonbran, Pet
A sore throat is a disease primarily located in the area around the tonsils. It is also known as pharyngitis or tonsillitis. The pharynx is the part of the throat that lies between the mouth and the larynx or voice box. It is associated most commonly with the common cold or influenza. While most sore throats heal without complications, in some cases, they develop into a serious illness.

Throat cancer can develop anywhere in the throat such as the vocal cords or the glottis. The throat is a hollow tube that extends from the rear of the mouth to the esophagus. There are throat cancers that are more aggressive, depending on their location. Cancerous tumors that are located above or below the glottis spread more quickly than cancerous tumors located anywhere else. Throat cancer usually develops in the middle part of the throat, right behind the tongue. This area is called the oropharynx and is part of the pharynx.

When diagnosing throat cancer symptoms, your doctor may ask for a series of tests in order to be certain. After all, some symptoms are triggered by other conditions that may not be as severe. A laryngoscopy will be the first of this, a type of exam that is done by examining the throat with the aid of a tube with a small lighted camera affixed to it. A cranial CT scan and/or a cranial MRI are next in line. These follow-up tests are to determine whether or not the cancer has spread to the lymph nodes found in the neck.

The throat cancer also leads to other primary and secondary cancer in the affected region. This is the cause for death in many case even if the patients able to get rid of the basic throat cancer. It will give way to other cancer which is more deadly. Among the oral cancers the squamous cell carcinomas is the common type of the cancer that is found 90% in the world oral cancer list. The majority of the people affected by this cancer are above 40 years of age. While the reason for the cancer at young contributes to the food habit and the tobacco factor.

The thyroid gland cancer is a type of throat cancer in which the thyroid gland may grow abnormally leading to the formation of tumors. The thyroid is a gland that is located at the base of the throat. The main purpose of this gland is to secrete hormones that regulate many parts of the body. The main reason for the disease in the thyroid gland is either over-active or under-active nature of the thyroid gland. There are four different types of thyroid gland. They are papillary, follicular, medullary, and anaplastic thyroid cancers. Each type grows at different rate so the effect of this cancer depends upon the type.

The diagnosis of the throat cancer can be done with the available machine like x-ray device or the MRI scan. But the main problem is the time of the diagnosis done. Most throat cancer is diagnosed at later stage of the cancer which is at that time fully developed and may even spread extensively. The main challenge is its discovery in early stage. As the symptom becomes more common the finding is difficult in early stage.
