[E143]Effects Of Chronic Stress
by Kate Hardy, Kat
If anger control is a problem for you then it may also be affecting your health and wellbeing. These are common problems for the chronically angry.

1. Anger is associated with increased blood pressure, heart disease and stokes. Anger puts a stress on the body systems. Over time this stress takes its toll on the cardiovascular system causing ill health. This only adds to the feeling of stress experience by the person with problem anger outbursts.

2. Chronic anger is also a common cause of workplace dissatisfaction and poor workplace performance. Many workplaces will be reluctant to promote an angry employee and in severe cases it can lead to dismissal. Employers sometimes recommend anger management classes for employees whose anger outbursts have caused problems in the workplace.

3. Chronic anger is associated with depression, insomnia, anxiety disorders and substance abuse. These problems usually need treatment along with anger management to get the best results. The anger management techniques that are taught in anger management classes are very helpful for improving these other problems.

4. Relationship and family breakdown is common where one partner has a chronic anger problem. A family living with constant criticism, anger, and tension is not a happy one. Partners and children living in this environment also suffer health problems. Their work and school performance can be negatively affected and they may have symptoms of anxiety and insomnia if anger outburst are frequent at home. Partners cannot feel true intimacy with someone they are afraid.

5. Chronic anger makes it difficult to feel relaxed and enjoy life's pleasures. People with this type of anger problem tend to focus on the negative aspects of every situation and take other peoples comments and behaviour personally. They tend to be critical of others and have low self ?esteem. If they are depressed (as most people with chronic anger are) the feel hopeless about the future and see little possibility that things can change and improve. This is the typical thinking distortion of an anger management problem.

Anger problems have serious effects that reach well beyond the anger sufferer. Those who live and work with a chronically angry person also suffer ill effects. Family, workplace and community relationships are all affected. Other people may avoid the angry person. Over time they can become isolated and lonely as thier angry behaviour drives others away. Family members may also avoid having friends over because of the tension in the home, and the risk of conflict in front of visitors.

The good news is that chronic anger management problems are very treatable. There are proven effective techniques that can reduce anger and help the angry person to live a happy and harmonious life again.Often seeing a therapist who specializes in anger treatment is helpful as well. The basics of treating anger are taught at anger management classes. These are now available online.

It's called chronic stress. The type of stress, that day after day wearing away at your body causing health problems too long to list.

Which can eventually make you sick not to mention, a less happier and fulfilled person.

Every experiences stress from time to time. Death of a loved one, divorce, financial problems, even moving can cause a great deal of stress. It doesn't have to be a major event to cause chronic stress. It can also be the day to day things as well, annoying co worker, traffic jams, car problems on your way to work etc . Most of us have big things and little things going on in our lives.

So we become unaware of our overreactions and we tend to normalize them and accept chronic stress as just a part of everyday life.

So here are some simple ways to help stop chronic stress from ruing your health and enjoyment in life.

1) Awareness.

Just be aware of how you're reacting to each situation. Especially the unimportant ones were there's no real danger that you react to like it's life or death.

Also, what worries you the most, and how often do you worry about these things? what keeps you up at night? Be honest with yourself.

The important part is to not feel bad about how you've been acting or feeling. Just recognize these reaction and behaviors without judgment.

This is the first step to improving your life!

2) Stay clear of negative people

Time and time again you hear this from the most positive successful people. You must examine who you spend most of your time with.

Almost every time we have someone negative around us, no matter how strong we are, it definitely affects the way we feel and act. Negativity is contagious. Choose who you associate with and speak to more carefully. If there is complaining excessively, whining, gossip, anything excessive of that nature, you need to get rid of it. If the people around you angry, and depressed, most of the time will only greatly contribute to chronic stress in your life.

3) Avoid excessive news

It's important to be informed but most of the news is horrible and stress producing just talking about people dying and getting cheated and hearing about terrible crimes. Too much news watching can give you a skewed view of the world with out you even realizing it.

It can instill fear in you that's unreasonable. ask yourself, do you feel happy and relaxed after watching the news?

4)Join a support group

There are plenty of groups for all kinds of interests and issues.

finding group you can get regular support from for your issues and concerns is one of the best things you can do to combat chronic stress.

Studies show that people who isolate don't live happier lives. We all need support to help with problems that come up in our lives.

I doesn't have to be a therapy group. Even a group of people that share the same interests with can be helpful.

5) Change your focus

Focus on solutions rather than problems.

wherever you put our focus you will eventually get. If we focus on what's wrong in our lives and our weaknesses we'll get more examples of it showing up consistently. But if we focus on what's going right as well as strengths, we are much happier and more effective in our daily lives.

This is only the first step in dealing with chronic stress, but by far the most important. So, be sure to give them a try right away.
