[E120]Edible Wild Plants A North American Field Guide
by Art Gib, Art
How about a Canada canoe trip in Algonquin Park? Algonquin Provincial Park is located in Central Ontario and covers 7630 square kilometers between Georgian Bay and the Ottawa River. It was the first provincial park in Canada, and was established in 1893. It is full of lakes and rivers you can splash around in. The park has magnificent vistas and wildlife that has largely disappeared from other parts of North America.

If you take a canoe trip to Algonquin Park, make sure you visit Canoe Lake -- it would only be appropriate. It is the point where many canoeists enter the park.

Bowron Lake Provincial Park in British Columbia is another eye popper. It covers over 300 thousand acres and includes six major lakes and several streams and rivers, such as the Isaac River and the Cariboo River.

Maybe you would like to paddle in a major water route. You can find the Yukon River near British Columbia. It lies in both Canada and Alaska and is the longest river in the area.

Check out Killarney Park in Ontario. It was named a provincial park. It is mostly a wilderness area with only one campground. The portages between lakes are well maintained to accommodate anyone taking a Canada canoe trip in the area.

What would you think of a 740-mile canoe paddling route that connects New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine and Quebec? You can find it at the Northern Forest Canoe Trail. Somewhere along the route you will find most any variety of water you can think of. You will get white water, swift water, flat water, rivers, streams, lakes and ponds. It does not get much better than that.

Do you love untouched wilderness? Take a trip to the Nahanni river. It features 900 meter walls staring down at you, and the Virginia Falls. There are exciting whitewater areas for the serious experienced canoeist.

Another outstanding wilderness canoe trip takes you down the Upper Stikine River and through the Spatsizi Wilderness Park. Some areas have class II and class III whitewater runs. If you want to continue, you can head through the Lower Stikine River which takes you to Wrangell, Alaska.

The trips mentioned here only touch the surface of some of the fantabulous Canada canoe trips you can make through some of North America's finest remaining wilderness and scenic areas. So grab your canoe and get going. What are you waiting for?
