Thankfully, most of the popular movies that have been cherished by millions have been re released as DVDs, and in turn there are many movie hits that will also be released on Blu ray in the near future. For a while it looked as though the Blu ray format would fizzle and fade with competition from the HD DVD format, but in 2008 it became clear that the BD format was here to stay and the HD DVD format would become history.

Fans of Blu ray disc (BD) format are in constant anticipation of upcoming movies that are currently DVDs that will be released soon on BD format. While there are dozens of movies that have been released, many dozens more that are scheduled to be released, and handfuls that are rumored to be released, here are some of the most anticipated DVDs that will soon be yours to own on Blu Ray.

Clerks II was originally released in 2006 and will become part of the BD family on February 3, 2009. With a running time of 97 minutes, it is rated R and is being released by the movie studio Weinstein Company. It will be available as a two disc special edition, with video resolution at 1080p and a presenting aspect ratio of 1.85:1. The list price for this one is $34.95.

Next up is 20th Century Foxs 2006 hit Little Miss Sunshine. Available to own on February 3, 2009, this film is rated R and runs 103 minutes long. The impressive audio specs vary for the different subtitles that it will be available in. English audio will be done in DTS HD Master Audio 5.1 sound, the Spanish audio will be available in Dolby Digital 5.1, and in French fans can enjoy it in Dolby Digital 5.1 as well. The video resolution for this DVD turned Blu Ray has an aspect ratio of 1.85:1, video resolution is at the typical BD standard of 1080p, and the video codec is MPEG 4 AVC.

DreamWorks pictures will take Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa from DVDs on Blu ray on February 6, 2009. Released just last year in 2008, the movie runs for 89 minutes and is rated PG. Video specs include video resolution of 1080p, an aspect ratio of 1.78:1, and the audio for English can be enjoyed with Dolby TrueHD 5.1 sound and Dolby Digital 5.1. In French and Spanish, the sound will be presented in Dolby Digital 2.0.

Other DVDs on Blu ray to watch for include Napoleon Dynamite, Office Space (Special Edition), Friday the 13th (Uncut) and many more.
