They might also have gear to be a firefighter, and they might have a red fire-engine toy to go along with their play clothes. Kids can dress up like doctors, businessmen or business women, ballerinas, homeless people, pirates, or just about anything that they can imagine. With the accompaniment of their toys, they can put on an entire act.
If you child happens to love to play dress up and pretend to be a number of different things, that can be good. They could turn out to be an actor when they get older. Encourage them to use their imagination, and allow them to have fun pretending.
Halloween is a big chance for them to pretty much play pretend all day. They do not have to choose a scary costume for the holiday if they don't want to. Halloween can be an opportunity to be a princess or a king, or any number of things. One popular costume idea that many children wear during Halloween is dressing up like their favorite comic book character or cartoon character. Dressing up should not be discouraged for boys or for girls. Let them explore all of the different options that they have, and allow their imaginations to expand. Playing dress up is fun, and it can make memories, too.
