[D673]Dreams Come True Wedding
by Janet R., Jan

When planning a dream-like wedding, what may be affordable for you may be too much for others. Before you jump into extraordinary things for your wedding, you have to consider first you finances. It is always a must to see first what you can afford on every detail of your wedding. Compare prices of several catering, the cost of the video, photos and music. You also need to consider the cost of the wedding clothing, dresses and tuxedos, as well as the cost of flowers and decorations. The reception can be very expensive if it's not given a proper attention, the wedding favors and lastly the cost of the honeymoon. All these things requires money and are included in the overall wedding expenses.

If you are on a budget, it is always a good idea to make a list of priorities for this will help you generate a rough estimate of how much a typical wedding costs. With this, you can then start finding for the exact prices. The cost your reception menu will tell you how many guests you can invite, meaning if the costs are beyond what you can afford to spend, then you will have to cut down your guest list.

The wedding reception is the major focus if you are planning to have a wedding on a budget. When you have a tight budget, of course you don't want to invite as many of your family and friends as possible. Apart from your wedding guests, another factor that can seriously increase your wedding cost is the food. If you opt to serve a sit down meal, you can save money by handling the catering yourself. You may have to rent the location for the dinner and dance, but you can always plan to serve your own menu to save some extra bucks. A good example to elaborate this idea is by gathering your family and friends to help you cook and serve the food. You may also consider checking if there are any charitable organizations in your area that do catering for special events. These organizations can usually cater a delightful hot or cold meal at a reasonable price.

Of course, a wedding will not be completed if there's no drinks for everyone, and this alone is a huge add up to your wedding expenses. Today, many couple opt to have a cash bar where guests pay their own drinks, instead of providing all the drinks for the guests. Depending on the rules of the location you choose for your reception, if you are allowed to bring in your own alcoholic beverages you can have a Bring Your Own Booze event, which you can denote on the invitation as BYOB. Aside from such economical idea, you can also save money by buying wine kits which will able you to make and bottle your own wine.

The same through with your wedding cake. If you can make your own nice wedding cake, then feel free of doing it so. If you make your own cakes, you can rent cake pans for wedding cakes at a very cheap cost. If you can make your own cake but can't decorate it, you may bring it to your favorite bakery shop to be decorated. You can make them well in advance and freeze them.

Another thing that will help you save money on your wedding is planning for cheap wedding favors, as well as giving out inexpensive wedding gifts. Instead of extravagant wedding gifts that are often available in a dollar store, why not give inexpensive bridesmaids gifts or discount groomsmen gifts? After all, these gifts need not be too much to be valued and appreciated.

The wedding registry is an excellent way to have the guests chip in together towards a more meaningful set of gifts. Here the couple would have to register with the wedding registry or have the guests informed about it. Make sure you are conveying as clearly as possible what you would want your guests to give you, so they can make the choice that would benefit you the most.

The Advantages and Disadvantages of the Honeymoon Registry

First of all, let us clear up the concept of the honeymoon registry, which is similar to the wedding registry. However, while the latter would inspire wedding gifts, the former would request the guests to contribute towards the budget of the honeymoon hence, the name of honeymoon registry. While the idea is excellent and often is extremely successful, there are a few major drawbacks with this system

It will require an early notice to all the guests, i.e. some three months in advance. This means that the guests would have to be invited about three months in advance, which will in turn mean that all the arrangements (at least the majority of them) be finalized and printed in a card some three months in advance as well.

In spite of the long advance notice, sometimes even several weeks after the wedding not all the guests will have joined the honeymoon registry. In that case it would be difficult for you (unless you can complement the rest of the finances) to really take up the honeymoon plan, which could be extremely frustrating.

The honeymoon registry will take a lot of effort, coordination and planning. If and when it does not turn out as successful as you would like it to be, it is kind of heart breaking, and not a great way to start your married life.

However, before we write it off as a bad tradition, let us cast a glance on the advantages it offers. When the guests are really tuned in to the idea, you will find an excellent way to pay for a wonderful honeymoon without stretching your financial sources any further.

Instead of getting five toasters, three juicers, and unending sets of china tea sets, you will be able to make your wishes clear about what you need from your guests. The guests could decide whether they want to join the honeymoon registry or not, based upon their financial capacity and commitments.

Even in the worst of worst conditions, you are still getting a good source of cash through this. In this case, you can always think about the honeymoon registry as a subsidy to your honeymoon expenses, even if you do not get buyers for the things listed in the registry.

Lastly, you can use the money deposited in your honeymoon registry any way you want. It does not matter where you go and where you stay for your honeymoon, or if you do not go at all. They money is yours to use as you would like best.
