Moving house is one of the emotional parts of everyone's life. While we will be wondering about the new neighbors and the new surroundings, we must also make sure that the act of moving will be as stress free as possible. There are several factors to be considered that make moving house less stressful.
Just keep reading this article to know the five most wanted tips for a house move in Surrey, London, Hertfordshire, or any other part of this planet
1. Doing it all alone is not a good idea
Many people make a great mistake by avoiding getting help while moving house. If you get your relatives and friends to help you move house, the process will become a lot easier. You can get help with your removal job even if you don't have enough budget. Your friends and relatives will be happy to help you if you offer to cook them a meal afterwards (provided you're a reasonable cook, of course). You can even get help by offering a return favor when they next move house. Moving house can be a lot easier if you hire the services of a removal company. By paying them a nominal fee, you can just relax while they pack all your stuff with care and transport it.
2. Early Packing is Essential:
Some items can be packed weeks in advance of your house move. By doing so, you will have more time check everything, order things and decide what you need to keep and what to dispose of. You have to remember the fact that removal companies will not be available round the clock. You have to book the removal company to ensure that they will be available at your convenient time.
3. The Size of Packing boxes
Once you start packing the items, it is time to get the boxes for packing. If you have large cupboards or wardrobes you are moving (that you're not dismantling first), then if you wish to store other items in them during transit in the van, make sure that these items are also in boxes, so that they can be carried separately into the van.
4. Get someone to help look after the kids
You should always remember to ask someone to look after your kids or warn them in advance to keep away from you on moving day. Also don't expect too much from them - this can save much shouting! It's important to remember that children are also emotional on moving day - they have their own things going on, they may be excited about the move and their new home or nervous about whether they will make new friends or find their feet in their new home ? just like you will be!
5. Look for a professional Removal Company or Van Man Service
It's always worth using a professional removal company no matter whether you are moving from NW1 to NW2 in London, or from Hertfordshire to Surrey, or even from the UK internationally. Remember to ask the removal company about how many years of expertise they have in moving house. You should also ask the company about size of the removal vans, types of tail-lift or moving equipment. Make sure that the removal prices include VAT and fuel. If you are moving house in London, or to any city or large town (e.g. Essex, Surrey or Hertford), then find out what the parking arrangements are and if necessary apply for a parking permit in advance.
* You should first check out the new property for any potential problems, ahead of time. Are there any holes in the fence? Is the fence too low, so that your dog is likely to escape into an unfamiliar neighborhood? You don't want to arrive, with all your furniture and belongings packed up, only to have the added stress of finding your wandering dog.
* Find out whether the area you are moving to has problems with heartworm or paralysis ticks. This is particularly important if you are moving overseas or interstate.
* To be prepared for all possible contingencies, find out where the closest after-hours animal emergency center is. That way, if there's a serious problem, you'll be able to address it quickly, without searching the neighborhood. You could also see if your old vet has any recommendations for vets in the area. And its a good idea to get a copy of your dog's veterinary history before you go, particularly if he has ongoing problems.
* Will you be traveling by car? Has your dog traveled in the car before? Dogs can get carsick too. Don't feed your dog for 4 or so hours before you need to leave. If your dog salivates a lot in the car, be sure to take plenty of towels along. If he salivates a lot, you may want to consider crating him for the journey. If you have a grid that you can put in the bottom of the crate, he will remain dry.
* If your dog has never been in the car before, try taking him for short trips before you need to move. Some dogs can get nervous in cars, and this way, he'll have a chance to get used to the experience. Try avoiding trips in heavy traffic, however. The frequent stops and starts in traffic can make dogs feel nauseous.
* Don't let your dog put his head out the window! It can damage his eyes, and some dogs will jump out - even when the car is moving.
* If you're moving quite far away from your old home, you might want to take along some water, enough to last him a few days. Some dogs can get sick when getting used to new water, due to the different 'bugs' that can be in water. Whilst he will get used to the new water, it can be less stressful on him physically and emotionally if he is feeling well.
* In case your dog does escape after the move, it helps to have a recent photograph of him that isn't packed away.
* If you are traveling by car, make sure you stop regularly, so that he has a chance to have a drink, and go to the toilet. You don't want him getting dehydrated.
