[T596]The Miracle Worker Characters
by Eric Chay, Eri
Annie Sullivan was born Johanna Sullivan on April 14, 1866 in Agawam, Massachusetts to impoverished Irish immigrants. With two other siblings, Annie and her family lived in a small hovel in dire poverty.

Growing up, Annie was often subjected to the physical abuse by her alcoholic father. At the age of five, trachoma struck Annie, leaving her almost blind. When Annie was nine, her mother died and her father abandoned the children. They were then shuttled between relatives.

Eventually, the relatives sent her and Jimmie, her younger, tuberculosis-stricken brother to the Almshouse in Tewksbury, which was a state home for the poor. Jimmie soon died in the infirmary.

Annie underwent a series of operations to fix her eyesight but these attempts were not effective. She returned to the Tewksbury Almshouse against her will.

Four years later in October 1880, she convinced state inspectors to send her to the Perkins Institution for the Blind in South Boston. Annie's sight was partially restored after a series of surgeries and with the help of glasses. In 1886, she graduated as class valedictorian in 1886.

In March 1887, the 21 year-old Annie was sent by the school's director to Tuscumbia, Alabama as governess and teacher to a seven-year-old deaf-blind and mute girl. The student was Helen Adams Keller.

Helen has been a very difficult child with bad behaviors and temper tantrums. The epiphany came for Helen Keller one summer day. Through repeated use of the manual alphabet, as well as much patience and love, Annie finally managed to reach Helen. Her greatest achievement was to become the first person successfully teach a deaf-blind and mute child.

Helen Keller attended Radcliffe College in Cambridge and wrote her autobiography, entitled ?The Story of My Life?, which became a famous novel.

Helen Keller became one of the founders of the American Foundation for the Blind as well as a nationally renowned leader for women's rights. Annie accompanied her around the world on her lecture tours.

Annie received several recognitions from various foundations for her tireless teaching and commitment to her student. Her failing eyesight continued to deteriorate until her death on October 20, 1936.

Although Annie was legally blind, what she had accomplished in her life is definitely much more than most able bodied people such as you and I had done.

As such, we have no excuse but to do all we can everyday.

We should learn from Annie and show <---****HYPERLINK****--->"http://www.ericchay.com">perseverance and <---****HYPERLINK****--->"http://www.lawofattractionfree.com">patience in our work and to do it with zest and gusto!

The treatment of wrinkles using dermal fillers is a huge cosmetic field that is flourishing, which helps many keep a radiant and healthy look even after the elements may have caused skin damage or wear. With so many treatment options out there, it is best to take a look at the options available and get an idea of what each type of treatment may offer the individual.

One such treatment option is Restylane, a skin care dermal filler injection which is comprised of a non-animal base solution. The solution is formulated from the streptococcus bacteria and helps to smooth out fine lines, wrinkles, and fill in areas of the skin. The safety rating with Restylane is very good and side effects are limited to pain, redness, and tenderness at the injection site. There can be more serious risks involved, which are associated with granuloma. This is a very rare occurrence but should be understood and discussed with a skin care professional or dermatologist nonetheless.

Like all dermal fillers, they are not permanent, and results vary from case to case. Each person's skin is different but the results for Restylane typically last for about 6-12 months and should be redone about that often. It is important to have realistic expectations prior to going in for your treatments and to speak frankly with a cosmetic dermatologist about your expectations and desires. Skin care is different for everyone and to help determine whether Restylane is right for you, it is a good idea to check out your options and to remain informed.

Maintaining beautiful skin need not be difficult. By preventing fine lines and wrinkles, your skin will thank you later. Wearing plenty of protective sunscreen, hats, and avoiding prolonged exposure to the sun, you can maintain healthy and beautiful skin. Restylane is for those that would like to diminish the effects of the weather and basic wear on skin that occurs over time. After treatment injections, you can resume activities immediately and treatment is usually followed by minor discomfort. Since treatments for cosmetic reasons are considered elective, most health insurance providers will not cover the cost of injections. Discussing the cost of treatment is a good idea prior to getting any work done. This is helpful to make sure that your cosmetic dermatologist and you are on the same page and both agree to the terms of the treatment being offered.

Since Restylane injections are not permanent, it is important to consider prevention techniques as early as one can in life, which will safeguard beautiful skin for longer. Preventing damage is the key, and sunscreen is one of the best ways to prevent sun damage after years of exposure. Once skin damage sets in, there are not many options to permanently remove it unless surgery is considered. Since injection treatments do not require one to undergo surgery, they are often more popular and desirable though they do not last. Still, having to return for repeat treatments every 6-12 months is not too bad, yet this all depends on your financial commitment to the treatments.
