Oia is one of the most famousvillages in Santorini, also pronounced as ?Ia?. The village is built on a steepslope of caldera and situated on the northern side of the Islandof Santorini Greece, which is 11 Km away from the Village of Fira. From the top of cliff Oia offersan unforgettable view over the volcano of palia, Nea Kameni and Thirssia.

Before 1956 earthquake thisvillage was nice with industrial facilities where local people were working. Incomparison to current days the population was much higher before the 1956 earthquake. The damage of 1956 earthquake was so high that most of the people leftthe village and the village of Oia was turned to be a ghost village in the island of Santorini,Greece.But now days many luxury hotels are built here and many celebrities and wealthypeople get attracted to this village for relaxing and romantic holidays.

Oia is a Traditional and culturalcity with blue domed churches, narrow streets, beautiful houses and sun bathedVerandas. How ever one can find a plenty of tourist shops, cafes, taverns andvarious other shops, but Oia is less commercial in comparison to Fira.

 Oia has many cultural attractions such asnaval maritime museum, many churches and the windmills. The naval museum isjust the introduction of the villageof Oia and a very good place to spendone or two hours during the Santorini vacation to know about culture andhistory of the whole Cycladic Island. The findings ofmuseum include naval equipment, portraits and naval uniforms, colorful figureheads,historic oil lamps and many more.

There are two ports in the village and they are Ammoudi andArmeni. Visitors can go to Ammoudi port by rental or private cars. One has towalk down the 235 steps, or by the help mule riding. Armeni port is muchsmaller than the Ammoudi. The Armeni port was using for wine trading. To go tothis port you can catch boat departing from Ammoudi or you can go by walking291 steps down. Mule riding is also available in both the ports.
