[T843]There Life After Death
by Ecyoj Odabas, Ecy

True, the statements do contradict but isn't that what most people believe how it is? This belief need no proof for its justification lies on faith and faith alone. In a world, where every little detail in our daily lives is dictated by religion, it isn't quite surprising that people dwell on this belief without actually examining its authenticity.

Basically, it was a choice. People chose to believe that indeed there is life after death because we're born in a society that dictates so. It was our own choice to follow the dictate of society and be one of the crowd when we can go against the flow. We were the ones who taught ourselves never to question such beliefs.

With our eyes closed, we accept this “truth” because the bible says so. Isn't the bible but a book of myths? How do we really know that the characters brought to life by the bible aren't as fictitious as the gods in Greek mythology which man had believed to be authentic for quite sometime? Didn't Greek Mythology exist because Man wanted the truth on the mysteries behind the trivial things in life? He wanted to know why it rained and this set of beliefs, Greek Mythology, was the sole source for quite a number of years before Science introduced the water cycle.

How then can we be sure that milleniums from now, Science won't be able to prove the existence of “life after death” but a fallacy, but another myth conjured by the exact same human characteristic that will prove it wrong?

Could it be possible that aside from the quench for the thirst of knowledge (which can be either false or genuine, but how do we really know?), this set of beliefs and principles are but mere reflections of human desire? That is what we chose to believe for that is how we want it to be. Take the concept of heaven and hell for example. Doesn't a human being lust for rewards in exchange for his good deed and sentence punishments for his wrong doings? Isn't life in paradise we named heaven the greatest reward man could ever get? Didn't we conceptualize hell as a place for the most crucial punishment man can ever receive?

On the other side of the coin, there isn't life after death primarily because there is no Science, our concept of fact, behind it. Science strongly opposes the existence of life after death because no one who has seen death in the eye can prove so. Can this be saying that seeing is believing? That before you can ever say that something really exists you have to see it first? But are all truths visible in the naked eye? Can we also always be sure that the things we're seeing aren't but mere optical illusions? Tell me, wasn't Science the one which introduced to us the concept of air? Now, is this thing which Science strongly believes truly exists, visible to the eye? Cold is the absence of heat. Logically speaking, for one to be absent it has to exist. Science was also the one who conceptualized heat but then again, has any one of you seen heat?

Is Science the only way to prove that something exists? Tell me, what are paranormals? Aren't they the “entities” that science cannot yet explain? Therefore, If Science indeed is the only thing that justifies existence, how then can this same science acknowledge the existence of things they have now yet fully- conceptualized even giving these unexplained concepts a category- paranormals? If Science itself hasn't considered this paranormals truth, how then have we justified their existence? What is the other thing, that definitely isn't Science, that made us believe that these so-called paranormals exist? Could it be faith?

For the longest time, I have accepted the truth that religion has provided because I have conformed long enough to the society. I have chosen to be one of the crowd who blindly accepts the truth that religion provides just because majority does so without realizing their ability to evaluate things.

Death has been one of life's greatest mysteries because no can live after death has chosen to unravel in front of him.

As regards to the question, “Is there life after death?” I cannot provide you with a definite answer, I can only wonder. But then again, maybe that's good for it's the same mystery that haunts us yet dusts life with color and magic at the same time.
