This generation is a generation of ?doubters and disbelievers?. We are rejectors of truth. We weren't always this way. There was a time when fact was fact and truth was truth. All knew it and, it JUST was. There was a time when a handshake settled a matter and a time when a man's word was like a seal that was not broken. Who can say, really, when the ?doubt? began? We know that it existed in the Messiahs? time among his very own disciples. Thomas doubted. Being faithless, he had to reach out his hand and put it in the Messiah's side to actually believe that He had risen from the dead. In John 20:29, the Messiah rebuked Thomas and said, ?Thomas, because you have seen Me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen, and yet have believed.? Clouded by his doubt and disbelief, Thomas could not recognize ?truth?. Neither could the disciples recognize ?truth as truth?. They too were given a verbal spanking for their unbelief and hardness of heart because they did not believe those who had seen the Messiah after He had been raised up. He said, ?He who does not believe will be condemned?. (Mark 16:16)
Truth has never changed. Truth demolishes doubt, crushes confusion and destroys disbelief. Truth can stand on its own. It doesn't need us to stand back and leer at it from around some corner and make questionable comments like: ?What's your angle?? ?Can I get that in writing?? ?What's in it for you?? ?Is someone paying you to say that?? ?What's the catch?? ?How much money are you making from this?? ?Is this some kind of joke??
Our generation can't accept fact for fact or truth for truth. Instead, we make attempts to scale the firm foundation of truth and overthrow it through riotous thoughts and senseless imaginations. It's sad, really. A long time ago, people believed that what was written in the Holy Bible WAS truth. Had a question, the bible had the answer. Needed advice or a problem solved, the bible had the answer. No one dared doubt the bible. They didn't have to because truth was truth. People didn't need historical records or archaeological finds or historic relics to tell them that the bible was true. They just knew it because truth stands on its own and cannot be refuted. Accounts of heroism, victory, freedom, valor, emancipation, slavery, defeat, war, peace, famine, pride, disbelief?yes, the bible has given an account for everything mankind has and will go through during his brief life under the sun. Why doubt now? Maybe, it was our gradual descent into lawlessness or, maybe, it was science or man's technological advancements that has made us a bit weary of taking truth for truth? (Sigh). We would have to go back to the very beginning when the heavens and the earth were created, and that, my friend, we cannot do. So, Truth, ? what IS Truth? Why ask. Go to your bible and just start reading.
The temple is located in northern Pattaya, just a few minutes drive from central Pattaya. Tours can be booked at any hotel lobby or any street vendor hawking tours. You get to the site via a min-van that picks you up at your hotel. Our tour was from about 10 in the morning until 4 in the afternoon.
"The magnificence of heaven recreated on earth" is the temple's theme. The idea for the temple was conceived by one very wealthy man who wanted to give something back to the community and remind them that religion, philosophy, and art need to be a part of their lives.
The temple is hand-carved completely out of wood and stands 105 meters at its highest point. Skilled craftsmen have been working on the temple for over 40 years and still have approximately 25 more years to go.
This is not just a tribute to Thai Buddhism, but also draws inspiration from China and India. The Sanctuary also honors the planetary gods, parents, children and the elderly.
Magnificent wooden statues, ornate pillars, and floors, walls and ceilings have all been created using rudimentary tools by hundreds of skilled craftsmen and women. You will literally stand in awe and ask yourself, "How did they make this?"
Once you get over your awe-inspiring tour of the temple, you can visit the grounds on horseback. A short 30-minute ride and it will be time for the dolphin show. They have two dolphins in a pool and you sit in shaded bleachers. They dolphins do the normal jumping through hoops and toss a ball back forth. When the show is over, you can go up and pet the dolphins and get your picture taken.
Time for a simple lunch and a relaxing beverage. We were served a hamburger, french fries and a cola. One more short visit to the Sanctuary for some more pictures, a short visit to the souvenir store, and it is time to head back to your hotel.
This half-day tour will set you back all of about $25 and that includes the temple tour, the dolphin show, horseback riding and lunch.
What I liked about this tour was that it was with a small group and was only minutes from my room. Once we arrived at the grounds, there were tour guides that asked where you were from to make sure that they had the correct language speaking guide. The young lady that toured us around spoke decent English and gave a very informative narration. The only complaint I had was that we had to wear a hard hat since it is still considered a construction area.
