No matter how well planned and intentioned there are few brides who don't have second thoughts about something they have selected for their special day. The wedding cake is no different especially when there are so many styles available. Some of the easier questions are; should it be round or square? White or ivory? Sponge, fruit, chocolate, carrot or even lemon cake filling. Or can we have a different filling on each layer?
Having either seen something in a magazine or on a website some brides have a clear idea of the cake they'd like. In many respects they're the lucky ones. For most it involves a lot of head scratching, deep thought and in some cases sleep-ness nights.

Choosing the right filling
How the cake tastes is arguably what it's all about. There can be nothing more disappointing than to have guests complain to the wedding party that "the cake was too dry" or "too 'anything'". Understanding that it's not only the design that's to be superb the cake must taste delicious too.
With a wide selection of fillings available you can choose from fruit, chocolate, sponge, lemon, toffee and carrot (not suitable for all cake designs) and many more. Many are now moving away from the tradition of fruit cake with most are finding that sponge and chocolate are the favourites and are seldom left with much to take home.
Choosing the right design
There are so many designs available it can be quite mind blowing to try and select the right one first time. Our design team are experienced in being able to take your ideas and transform them into a design that will compliment the wedding.
Not all our contemporary designs are as far removed from tradition. There are a number of neat square, round and petal contemporary cakes decorated in anything from sea holly to sugar calla lilies. All our designs are easily tweaked to accommodate the theme of the wedding.
It used to be that you could wait to order your cake until about four months out from your wedding. Now it's becoming more critical that you book early so you're not disappointed when the cake companies are full on your wedding date. You also don't want to settle on something rather than choose your type of cake and icing.
Since you're having a wedding in Hawaii, you'll probably be having a tropical type theme with beautiful tropical leis or flowers and exotic decorations. A great idea would be to have a pineapple flavored cake with a complimentary flavored icing; cream cheese icing is great with pineapple. Another great idea for your wedding cake is to use a neutral flavored cake such as vanilla, and go with a rich icing, like cherries and cream.
Tasting the different cakes is absolutely critical because we all love cake but there's a huge difference between a wedding cake and your Hawaii wedding cake that makes people have visions of the Pacific Islanders founding the islands all those years ago.
There are so mnay style of wedding cakes now, with squares, circles, small cakes, big cakes, etc. You can even have fully customized cakes make to look like anything you desire. They cost more, but they're really cool. Think about the flowers, cake toppers, and other decor that could dress up your cake as well. There are just so many ways to make it uniquely your own.
If you're having a lot of guests, try smaller versions of wedding cakes or maybe cupcakes. You can purchase several small and beautiful cakes to place at each table instead of or in conjunction with the large cake. You can then choose several different flavors, designs, and looks. Speak with the cake designers to weave all the looks together, and make it flow.
If you're having a large wedding, or if you can't find a baker for your date, there's always another option in the making of a show cake and a real cake. This way your guests will be enamored by the beauty of this cake for show out on your table but they can eat a regular cake (that still tastes great) but maybe doesn't cost as much. This is especially helpful for large parties over 250 guests.
Some really amazing cakes can be custom designed for your wedding. Maybe you're having a theme that no one else would have, such as "the years of our lives." Let's say you and your fiance are reminiscing over your relationship, and your decorations will be pictures of the two of you over the years. You could actually get a cake with a picture of the two of you in edible icing! The possibilities are endless. Create a great wedding cake that you will always remember for your wedding in Hawaii.
