Love and cooperation. Respect and mutual assistance. Some of your ancient peoples used that ability constantly. You'll find it in the legends of those who inhabited this country centuries ago. It exists,to some degree, in the aborigines of Australia. Even in the twentieth-century there are many that still remember how to do it. Focus and practice, that's all it takes.?

Ancient man was able to find food and water with the help of animal friends and nature. Modern man could also find peace and joy through such communications. Everything is connected to everything else. Your scientists are just now discovering this.?
By this time we were approaching my house. I pulled into my driveway thinking that life is, after all,a guided tour of the cosmos. In a little corner of the universe,I was sitting in my ?space-time? capsule seeing only small parts of the grand design. Somewhere in time I had lost my map and couldn't even find my tour guide. I turned off the motor as Gideon and I sat for a short while longer.
As if reading my thoughts, he said, ?You never lost the map and the tour guide has always been with you. The problem is that on Earth you and millions of others get blinded by appearances.You forget that you are on stage in your own play. You get caught up in your own picture,John. The beginning of your worries is when you feel helpless in your own show. The beginning of your joy and glory is when you realize that all you have to do is change perspective. Practice not to be too attached to your problems. You'll see how soon they'll vanish.?
?Gideon, won't you come in and meet the children? I know they'll like you.?
?Not this time,? he replied, ?but I'll see them soon.?
?When will I see you again? As you can see, there's still a lot for me to learn and you're really an excellent teacher.? ?Don't become teacher-dependent, John. You are your own best teacher. Maintain perspective and keep learning. I must leave because I promised to have tea with Marla.?

With this, he opened the door, stepped out and was gone. Yes indeed, life is lighter than a feather, but living is sometimes heavier than a mountain.

It's always engrossing to watch the discovery or rediscovery of a truth. The discoverer is almost always astounded and overwhelmed. It may even appear that the truth was revealed exclusively for his or her benefit. And then, as time moves on, everything returns to its ordinary state again. Yet,once having touched or felt the possibilities beyond the ordinary,one is hardly ever the same as before.
So it was with Gideon and me. A close friendship, an other-worldly comradeship had developed. The things he taught me made sense in my heart but not my head. There were times, however, when darkness closed in and I could make no sense of anything. It was then that I would hear his voice quoting a beautiful axiom, ?Morning has been all night coming, but see how surely it comes.?
It is not the sun that creates darkness, but the Earth itself, as it turns its face away from the sun. But the darkness never lasts; the sun is always there and it is we who must return. It is not God who sends us dark times, but we ourselves who bring them to us, for purposes even we do not know. Whenever there are shadows before us, it must be that we have our backs to the light. To make the shadows disappear, we have but to turn and face the light.
I have, generally, been given to practicality. A philosophy, a religion, a way of life must be extraordinarily practical to have any effect on me. Don't tell me of a glorious future at the end of this world when I am experiencing tremendous difficulty with the present. Let my philosophy and religion show me the way out of darkness into light, and let the way be one that all can walk. Or else, take away your preachings and your pontifications and let me walk my path alone.
