The Wii game console coming from the home of Nintento is the fifth home video home game console coming in the row and a direct successor to the Nintendo Game Cube. Nintendo released the new Nintendo Wii game console targeting Xbox 360 from Microsoft and PlayStation 3 from Sony. The attractive feature of the game console is Wii Remote, the wireless controller that can be used as a handheld pointing device that can detect acceleration in three dimensions. Another feature is the WiiConnect24, which has the ability to receive messages and updates through the Internet in standby mode. It was in 2004, that Nintendo first opened up on the idea of the console and it was later unveiled in 2005.Nintendo announced the release information for Japan, North and South America, Australasia (Oceania), Asia and Europe, including dates, prices and projected unit distribution numbers on September 14, 2006.
Nintendo Wii succeeded in marking record sales since its launch by taking the total sales to a higher rate than its competitors in the market. As per the NPD Group, the Wii has made more sale of units in North America than the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 combined in the first half of 2007. This was much larger in the Japanese market, where it currently leads not only in total sales, but usually outsells both consoles by 3:1 to 6:1 every week.
The Nintendo Wii console is the smallest home unit to date with a measurement of 44 mm (1.73 in) width, 157 mm (6.18 in) height and 215.4 mm (8.48 in) depth in its vertical orientation. The front of the console has an illuminated slot-loading optical media drive that has both 12 cm Wii Optical Discs and Nintendo GameCube Game Discs. Nintendo Wii has console comes in white, black, silver, lime green and red, but is currently available only in white. The Wii launch package consists of the console, a stand to allow the console to be placed vertically, a circular clear stabilizer for the main stand, one Wii Remote, one Nunchuk attachment, one Sensor Bar, a removable stand for the bar, one external main power adapter, two AA batteries, one composite AV cable with RCA connectors, operation documentation and a copy of Wii Sports.
Even though Nintendo Wii Game System competes with Xbox 360 and Playstation , it does very well and in fact it was difficult to find many games in this platform for Christmas. They introduced a new technology using a swingng motion with the controller so this put everyone at an equal footing . Baby boomers are used to using a remote control and not a joy stick but this still was an innovative use of it.
Look at the Nintendo Wii Console menu and you'll see both ways to interact with others, get email and various channels including weather and places to shop. They add channels so check rather than ignore the updates. Also of course you can play the game as well!
Nintendo wii has made adding friends easier and they have also made changes to their address book. You can explore your message history as well as different message icons.
You can check out older games by Nintendo and earn points to get them. This includes finding Nintendo 64 and Super Nintendo. Yeah they are a bit out of date but that's what makes them fun and classics.
Nintendo also keeps adding on channels which is a treat. They obviously know that they are competing with Xbox and Playstation and want to keep a strong edge. It was obvious this Christmas when you couldn't find Guitar Hero III for Wii though you could get it for Playstation and Xbox 360 with a bit of searching. However, checking at a number of malls it seemed the wii version of guitar hero iii wireless was just flying off the shelves and one couldn't count on finding it on time for the holidays.
By utilizing both innovation as well as appealing to all ages plus adding in channels enabling interaction, Nintendo Wii has reached a high level of popularity and keeps people curious for the latest updates and new releases.
