[N342]Non Surgical Cosmetic Procedures
by Dr.vladimir Grigoryants, Dr.
In Los Angeles there is a whirlwind of cosmetic procedures that celebrities go through on a monthly basis. Non-surgical cosmetic procedures like Los Angeles Botox and Restylane injections have become increasingly popular in the last year, especially because of the amazingly quick results with little to no downtime. Celebrities going to an event like the Oscars who need a quick fix for small lines or wrinkles will request Botox injections prior to the event. The use of Botox for lines and wrinkles in the face is nothing new. In fact, the use of Botox has become so common, it's even used as a verb, or lumped into other common pampering procedures. For example, "let's treat ourselves to a little mani, pedi, Botox." However, new uses for Botox are now being requested from celebrities and regulars alike.

Los Angeles cosmetic surgery has been the leader of changing and inventing new procedures for pampering. The "Botox boob job" is a term used for injections of Botox in the pectoral muscles, which lifts breasts, improves posture, and optimizes cleavage for that special low-cut dress you've been saving. Also, Botox injections have been approved for excessive sweating, which is a popular favorite of brides on their wedding day. "Pillows for your feet" is another term for a popular procedure in which dermal fillers are injected into the soles of your feet in order to relieve the pain of wearing high heels. Los Angeles Restylane injections are also applied to the nose, for a quick cosmetic nose reshaping procedure. Worldwide patients flock to doctors like Dr. Vladimir Grigoryants, board certified Glendale Plastic Surgeon for the latest and greatest in aesthetic cosmetic procedures. Dr. Grigoryants performs all types of cosmetic and reconstructive surgery, and understands the importance of achieving the best results with the least amount of discomfort. It is important to find a surgeon like Dr. G who is available and attuned to your concerns with any type of cosmetic procedure.

Nonresorbable fillers contain synthetic components that do not get broken down by the body. They are considered permanent because the particles cannot be removed, or "semi permanent" because the particles are suspended in a substance that gets absorbed in three to six months. The term "permanent" can be somewhat misleading since as the aging process continues, you will need additional treatments.

The duration of dermal fillers is variable and depends on the formulation of the material, how deeply it is injected and how much is used as well as how severe the wrinkles or folds are.

Restylane, which is hyaluronic acid is a natural polysaccharide that is commonly found in the connective tissues of the body. The most common areas for treatment are the naso-labial folds (creases from the nose to mouth), the naso-mental creases (corners of the mouth) and around the lips, as well as cheek and chin contours. Some topical anesthetic is needed before treatment. With Restylane, we are seeing longevity of six months and even longer in some patients. In most cases, a treatment consists of using two syringes of Restylane to obtain maximum correction.

Fat is a very common material used as a filling substance in facial rejuvenation. The fat that we inject into facial areas comes from your own body, so there is no chance of an allergic reaction. Fat can be used in higher volumes than most other injectable materials and can be used to create a fuller, more youthful appearance by reestablishing pleasing contours. Injections of fat into the deep layers of facial tissue can soften the angular, thin appearance that often accompanies aging.

The procedure is a two-step process that usually requires several treatments. The fat must be harvested from your own body, typically from the abdomen, thighs or hips. After it is extracted, it is placed in a centrifuge to separate the fat from surrounding tissues. The fat is then packed into a syringe ready to be injected.

Fat injections have a very variable life span. Much of the fat may be absorbed within six months. The body slowly absorbs the fat, although the amount of absorption depends on many factors and is hard to predict. Typically, more than half of the fat used in injectable treatments is absorbed within six months of the procedure, although it may last longer. Almost all patients will permanently retain some of the injected fat. Follow up treatments are usually necessary.

Patient safety and comfort is paramount to most surgeons. Therefore, they carefully research and investigate new fillers and technologies until they are confident that they are appropriate to offer to his patients. Long term filling substances tend to be more risky and may cause lumps, scar tissue formation, and other complications following treatment.

BOTOX a purified protein made from botulism bacteria, binds to the nerve endings, preventing the release of the chemical transmitters that activate muscles. When injected into specific areas of the face, it paralyzes the small muscles that cause frown lines, crow's feet, horizontal forehead creases, and other facial wrinkles.

Botox treatment decreases local muscle activity thereby preventing the appearance of "dynamic" wrinkles that are caused by repeated facial expressions. The effect generally lasts from three to four months. In some cases, after multiple treatments, results can last longer in between treatments. Typically, the frowning area lasts the longest, whereas areas around the mouth last the least long.

First, the skin may be treated with a topical anesthetic, if requested. A thin, fine-gauge needle is then used to inject the Botox into the skin and muscle of a specific part of the face. Most patients report a mild stinging sensation from the injection, which subsides rapidly. The treatment can sometimes cause a brief headache and bruising can occur at the injection site.

Applying ice packs over the treated site before and after the injections can reduce the discomfort, swelling and bruising. You can go back to work and resume regular activities right after treatment.

BOTOX can be used to improve the appearance of nasolabial folds between the nose and lips, and the fine lines above the lips. Vertical muscle bands in the neck can also be treated. New uses for Botox continue to be investigated for their safety and effectiveness.
