[N3]Nail Fungus Natural Cure
by Cris Peck, Cri
You may get fungal infection on both fingernails as well as toenails. The group of fungus that causes toenail fungus is known as dermatophytes. Toenail fungus is more harmful as it grows on the surface of the toenail, and mostly affects big toe finger and little toe fingers. The toenails start looking discolored and disfigured. Toenail fungus is a contagious disease, which can be hereditary at times.

You may get Toenail fungus in moist areas, such as public gyms or swimming pools. Toe nail fungus can easily spread from one toe to another or to other parts of the body. The athletes or people, who wear tight-fitting shoes face a greater risk of developing toe nail fungus. However, you can also develop toenail fungus due to an irregular pH level of the skin, or not wiping off your feet after taking bath or exercise. Therefore, ensure that you take more precautions at public places. Remember to wash your feet properly and dry them using a dryer to remove moisture.

There are multiple home remedies that exist for toenail fungus cure. For example, you can use tea tree oil, which is a natural fungicide with natural antiseptic properties. Tea oil is a natural cure for toenail fungus. You just need to mix pure tea tree oil with olive oil and apply this to the affected toe nail. Otherwise, you can also put few drops of tea tree oil on the affected toenails and massage it thoroughly. This is one of the most practiced and successful cure for nail fungus.

Another natural cure for nail fungus is using lukewarm water along with natural apple cider vinegar. You just need to soak your toenails for 20 minutes in the water in the solution. However, dry your feet properly afterwards. You can also mix 2 drops of Oregano essential oil with a tablespoon of olive oil, and use this mixture as a natural cure for toenail fungus. This is another effective cure for nail fungus, which if used daily, can yield impressive results. However, you need to use this mixture for a period of 3 weeks. Another natural cure for toenail fungus is oregano essential oil, which contains antiseptic, antibacterial, and antifungal properties. You can directly put few drops of oregano essential oil on the affected area, and massage it gently. The regular massage helps in smoothening the hardened and distorted nail and regenerating new tissues in the infected area.

Other than using natural remedies, you can also use Lather AHA (Alpha Hydroxy Acid) cream for effective toenail fungus cure. Apply the cream daily on your toe before you go to bed. The cream cleanses and rectifies the uneven flaking skin on your feet, which is generally more prone to develop fungus.

Other than this, there are various creams and lotions, which are made using 100% safe and effective natural oils with strong anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties.

A nail fungus can be seen, smelled, or even felt once it takes hold. Here is a list of some of the most common signs and symptoms of nail fungus:

  • The nail fungus may affect the appearance of the nails. They might look greenish, yellowish, or even darker colors. Some may have little white patches on them.
  • Nails may get flaky, brittle and chipped.
  • Debris might collect under your nails causing them to smell bad.
  • Sometimes nail fungus causes the nails to split.
  • Sometimes toenails get so thick that even wearing shoes or walking will be painful.

If you think that you have a nail fungus go to your healthcare provider and he or she will perform a test. This is the only way to know for sure if you have a nail fungus.

How to prevent a nail fungus from affecting your toenails?
Well-fitting shoes is always a good defense against a nail fungus. Shoes are well-fitting where there is space (about the width of a thumb) between the end of the shoe and the tip of the longest toe, preventing the toe from being damaged upon impact. Another way to prevent the nail fungus from appearing is to change socks whenever they become damp.

What to do when you have a nail fungal infection?
The nail fungus is hard to eliminate and needs treatment with proper medications, once it establishes in your nail bed. Unfortunately, in most cases, anti-fungal creams applied to the nail are useless because they do not penetrate the nail bed killing the fungus at its sourse.

However, there are strong oral medications that must be taken for months in order to be effective. But, be careful as most medications have side effects to other body organs like the liver or the skin, etc. Ask your physician to monitor side effects during treatment. This consists in periodic blood tests, usually monthly. Any of the following symptoms suggests organ damage and should be reported immediately to your physician: nausea, unusual fatigue, severe loss of appetite, skin rashes, yellow eyes, dark urine, bleeding.

Keep in mind that this list is far from being complete. If you are treating yourself for nail-fungal infection using oral medications, ask your physician for a complete list.
