The City of New York is one of the major global cities of the world and is the most populous city. It is the home of the United Nations and one of the worlds important cultural centres.It has been a centre of the worlds financial system, since world War Two and home to many financial institutions and influential stock markets.It is noted for having the lowest crime rate among the other cities in America and is the largest city in America.

40 million American tourist and foreign visit the city a year. Major tourist places include Statue of Liberty, Broadway, Greenwich Village and Empire State Building.

State of Liberty is a colossal statue given to America by the Paris based Union Franco Americanise in 1886 it stands at the mouth of the Hudson River in New York Harbour on Liberty Island. The sculptor Frederic Auguste was the designer of the Eiffel Tower designed the internal structure. The statue is made of pure copper on a framework of steel. The Statue of Liberty is one of the recognized icons of America worldwide.

Empire Statue Building is a 102 story skyscraper in New York City. It was the tallest building in the world for more than forth years been built in 1931. It has been named as one of the seven wonders of the modern world and currently the tallest building in New York City.

The residents of Greenwich Village are proud of there neighbourhood fame and history. Greenwich Village is home to many celebrities including the daughter of George W Bush and Uma Thurman who live on West Ninth Street. Washington Square Park is in the heart of the neighbourhood. Maybe the most famous park is The Cage on the top of the West 4th Street subway station.

The Cage is one of the most important tournament sites for amateur basketball tournaments. On October 31 it is home to New York s Village Halloween Parade, a mile long pageant of drag queens, drunkards, druggies, puppets and pets it is the largest Halloween event in the country. Greenwich Village was home to the Genovese Family godfather Vincent Gigante.

Manhattan Times Square is the only neighbourhood in the city with a zoning ordinance requiring tenants to display bright signs Time Square has been the mecca for arts and music. During the first half of the 20th century Times Square was home the music publishing industry Tin Pan Alley. Broadway mean theatre throughout the world.
