Niagara Falls has always been an amazing place to see the wonders of nature and the powerful forces that it exerts on the earth. Now the Falls are going high tech - at least on the Canadian side. The renovations of the main Table Rock area, including the high tech attraction, are the first in around 20 years.
Canadian officials have been working hard to draw more visitors to the thunderous site. Visiting the Falls is free, but officials are trying to keep visitors around by offering more for them to do once they arrive. They are hoping that the new attractions, "Niagara's Fury," will be the key that will bring the visitors to the new $38 million renovation of the water's edge.
"Niagara's Fury" is part theatrical experience, part history lesson and part reality show. The experience begins with a history cartoon (complete with hockey game between wooly mammoths) and ends with the "Falls" pouring down around the room to fill the space with fog and mist.
Creators visited amusement parks all around the globe to see what was available and what was popular. The special effects were designed by two California firms and it took around a year to complete.
The attraction is great for the whole family and unlike anything else that has been offered at Niagara (on either side of the Falls) so far. The hope is that it will draw more tourist dollars to the region. There has been some concern that the weak U.S. dollar could weaken the normal tourist numbers during the peak travel season.
The higher gas prices and even increased border regulations have been a concern for Niagara Falls officials. The renovation of the Table Rock area - with "Niagara's Fury" as the pinnacle - could be the thing that helps draw the vacation dollars to the Canadian side of the Falls.
