[P525]Pop Up Screen Rooms
by Chris Lees, Chr
What exactly are screen rooms? Well they do go by many other names like screen house, lodge, or gazebo but anyway you look at it they're a really nice addition to add on to your house. Especially in those areas of the country that are warmer all year round or even for when the summer and spring seasons do arrive. Heck as long as you're properly dressed you can even enjoy them in the fall and winter too.

Screen rooms are perfect for being able to enjoy the feeling of the fresh air that is flowing outside without having to have unwelcome guests arrive into your dwelling at the same time. The uses for these additions to your house are endless. It's a great place to enjoy a party, serve an afternoon meal with the whole family and more.

Those are definitely good enough reasons to have them. You also have the choice of where you want to place them. You can make it a completely new addition to your house or you can build it on an existing area of your house like a deck. Also don't forget a swimming pool, jacuzzi or porch either. It's definitely a versatile addition that you can make to your home.

Again we hate to repeat ourselves but it definitely is an attractive feature to anyone's home and it will make special occasions even more special. Just think of it this way it's not a feature that you see on every single house. Therefore you're definitely going to have a unique look to your home when you install one. Some houses may come with screen rooms prebuilt and other times they are added on later. Either way your house is going to look rather interesting whether there are screen rooms there or if you choose go to this route later on.

If you're still wondering what screen rooms are, well we'll give you a little imagery here with our explanation. Just think of one room in your house look like one big screen window. Pretty cool, eh? It's a feature that most people like we said earlier would associate with a southern type of climate, but in an area like New England you can still have your fun with them. There are many contractors out there that will make screen rooms a reality for those who desire the addition to their house.

Some people may think that's a crazy idea if you're living in a four reason climate but trust us it could also have a charm all its own at the same time where places in other parts of the country may never realize. So that's one good reason to think about screen rooms being used in colder climates. Often times the investment in screen rooms can add a great resale value to your house. Since it's not a standard feature on a home some people will be intrigued by this feature and therefore real estate companies can afford to ask for a little more. In closing the addition of screen rooms to a house definitely does some interesting things for one's living space.

Unlike more modern sunrooms, however, screen rooms don't offer all the protection from the elements that a glass enclosure can and there are quite a few other pros and cons. In the grand scheme of things, the screen room was the forerunner of the contemporary sunroom, but they still have a place today. And, technically, as long as they allow an optimum of natural light, these rooms can still be considered ?sunrooms? in the strictest sense of the word.

Screen rooms generally are a little more affordable than glassed-in sunrooms and inasmuch tend to be more in reach financially for a lot more people. They can even serve as a good starter for an eventual sunroom if the construction design is correct. If considering this option, make sure to go with a design that can be readily altered when a full glass enclosure can be purchased. In this case, it's a good idea to let an architect or designer draft plans for the room, even if the homeowner intends to build it. Special considerations likely will need to be made for the structure to be premade to handle both screen and eventually glass.

Here are some pros and cons of screen rooms:

Pros:

They're more affordable

They do provide some protection from the elements, especially insects and direct sunlight if a roof is included, but don't expect them to keep the cold or rain out.

They provide a great place for barbecues, backyard sitting and so on.

Cons:

Since they don't offer the protection glass does, they cannot be used 365 days a year in most climates.

They don't quite add the value on to a home that a glass sunroom will.

Screens can become damaged easily due to wear and tear, winds or accidents.

Despite some obvious shortcomings of the traditional screen room over a glass enclosed modern sunroom, these structures still are great additions to a home. They do provide an indoor/outdoor escape and offer a great location to kick back, relax and unwind.

Although screen rooms don't have the year-round appeal that many glass sunrooms do, if financing is an issue, they're a great starter. There's no reason to forgo creating a personal getaway room or turning a boring backyard into a place a family wants to be if a screen room can be afforded.

The benefits of these structures are many, plus they will keep the bugs out while letting the fresh air in.
