There are plenty of jobs to choose from whether you are a stay at home mom who needs to make some extra money or you just want to start a home based business where you can be your own boss and set your own hours. The best thing about a profitable home based business is that it can allow you to spend quality time with your family while the money flows in. Consider just a few of the more popular options that allow you to do this.

Have you always liked to write? Did you ever dream of writing the next great novel or do you just like to write on every subject you can? If so then writing can become an excellent job for you. Just find a couple of freelance writing sites on the internet where you can obtain projects that come from clients all over the world. Then just bid on the projects you can do and start writing. Writing is an excellent profitable home based business because it offers a lot of flexibility. You can decide on your own work hours while sitting in the comfort of your own home. You can also choose the pace of your work and the amount of work you want to take on.

A recent option that people are being attracted to is the benefits of franchising. Franchising is an excellent innovative way that you can make money from the comfort of your own home. Franchising is actually an excellent choice for stay at home moms who want some extra income to help with the rising cost of living. This allows stay at home moms to have a career while still raising their family.

Basically franchising works by having a company pay people to promote their products or services. The company will typically offer all the tools and promotional materials needed in addition to training. This means that even if you don't have experience in franchising you can still have the infrastructure and support necessary to succeed. This is an excellent way to start your own business without having to deal with all the publicity and advertising issues.

Then there is eBay and similar type stores. You can do this even if you don't have existing products to sell. You can choose to host a website in which other people can sell their products. As far as home jobs go this is a relatively new segment that people are getting into. When other people sell their items you will make money which means you have the opportunity for large amounts of money growth. You not only earn a fixed monthly fee that you charge sellers but you also get a commission off every sale that people make. It's not wonder this option is becoming one of the more lucrative jobs on the internet today.

If none of these options sound good to you then consider your personal hobbies. There is a chance with the internet today that you can turn your hobby into a full-fledged business. Simply set up an online store and sell the products you make. This is one of the best online jobs because you can make money all the while doing what you truly like to do. What an enjoyable way to spend your time.

More and more people, especially women, are choosing an online business that they run from home as a way of creating an income stream. However, many who are unfamiliar with business management get frustrated, struggle to make any money, and finally quit after only a few months. Developing and promoting a successful online business may seem like an impossible task at first. But, if you break the project down into small steps and take them one at a time, you will be successful. It's as easy as teaching a child how to tie his shoes!

A successful business, online or brick and mortar, is both a clone of other successful models along the same lines, and stands out through its own unique characteristics. This seems like a contradiction, so we will explain. Most successful business start out by “creatively imitating” other successful businesses in the same field, and then take it to the next level by emphasizing certain aspects of the business that appeal to a specific niche or group of potential customers. Let's use the example of Swiss banks vs. Amscot Financial.

Having a Swiss bank account appeals mainly to those who are wealthy. Accounts are numbered, instead of being in a person's name. This ensures the depositor's privacy; in fact, the Swiss have been famous for this for hundreds of years! There is also the added prestige of having an overseas account in an upscale, "First World" country.

As Swiss banking appeals to the rich, Amscot Financial and other “check-cashing” services appeal to those who have had money problems in the past, and do not qualify for a regular bank account. The company charges fees for check cashing which can sometimes be large. Amscot provides a number of pre-paid debit card products, which are used like credit cards for those who do not qualify for a regular card due to poor credit. These two businesses follow the same basic rules of accounting, etc., but appeal to very different niches, or groups of potential customers.

So, to make your business stand out from the others and be noticed, determine which specific niche of potential customers that you want to attract, and then devise goods and/or services that appeal directly to that niche!
