More and more people, especially women, are choosing an online business that they run from home as a way of creating an income stream. However, many who are unfamiliar with business management get frustrated, struggle to make any money, and finally quit after only a few months. Developing and promoting a successful online business may seem like an impossible task at first. But, if you break the project down into small steps and take them one at a time, you will be successful. It's as easy as teaching a child how to tie his shoes!
A successful business, online or brick and mortar, is both a clone of other successful models along the same lines, and stands out through its own unique characteristics. This seems like a contradiction, so we will explain. Most successful business start out by “creatively imitating” other successful businesses in the same field, and then take it to the next level by emphasizing certain aspects of the business that appeal to a specific niche or group of potential customers. Let's use the example of Swiss banks vs. Amscot Financial.
Having a Swiss bank account appeals mainly to those who are wealthy. Accounts are numbered, instead of being in a person's name. This ensures the depositor's privacy; in fact, the Swiss have been famous for this for hundreds of years! There is also the added prestige of having an overseas account in an upscale, "First World" country.
As Swiss banking appeals to the rich, Amscot Financial and other “check-cashing” services appeal to those who have had money problems in the past, and do not qualify for a regular bank account. The company charges fees for check cashing which can sometimes be large. Amscot provides a number of pre-paid debit card products, which are used like credit cards for those who do not qualify for a regular card due to poor credit. These two businesses follow the same basic rules of accounting, etc., but appeal to very different niches, or groups of potential customers.
So, to make your business stand out from the others and be noticed, determine which specific niche of potential customers that you want to attract, and then devise goods and/or services that appeal directly to that niche!
