[P213]Permanent Hair Removal Systems

Are you looking for a more permanent solution for removal of unwanted hair? You must be happy after knowing that laser hair removal will solve your problem as it is a permanent technique. Hair removal lasers have been in use since 1997 and the Food and Drug Administration approved it for "permanent hair reduction." Laser hair removal has become extremely popular because of its speed and efficacy, although some of the efficacy is dependent upon the skill and experience of the laser operator, and the choice and availability of different laser technology at the clinic which is performing the procedure.

Laser hair removal has proven to be a very popular non-surgical cosmetic procedure. It is a non-invasive, convenient way to permanently reduce unwanted facial or body hair. There is no technology available for permanent hair removal. Laser is attracted to dark pigment and therefore works best with dark coarse hair. Light skin and dark hair are an ideal combination, but new lasers are now able to target dark black hair even in patients with dark skin.

The lasers on the market today come in all shapes and sizes. Different lasers use different wavelengths of light; some utilize a cooling device and some do not. All laser systems emit a gentle beam of light that passes through the skin to the hair follicle where it is absorbed by the hair. The laser energy is then transformed into heat which disables the follicle. Today, individuals with white or dark/tan skin can utilize lasers to remove their unwanted hair with positive results. Lasers that utilize a cooling device will help provide the patient with increased comfort and protection by cooling the upper layers of skin. This cooling selectivity helps to protect the skin while effectively treating the unwanted hair.

Laser therapy is the safest and fastest, amongst all the methods of permanent hair reduction. Laser means Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation that produces an intense beam of light of a particular wavelength. The laser gets absorbed in the melanin of hair follicles (the growth center of hair); increases the temperature to destroy the follicle cells permanently. Each laser pulse treats an area about one centimeter in diameter, which may contain around ten hairs, rendering them ineffective, thus preventing future hair growth. the feel of the laser on the skin has been described in many different ways. Some say it feels like a pinch on the skin and others say it feels cool or it feels like a mild rubber band snap. For those who feel discomfort, most clinics do provide mild anesthetics.

Laser hair removal is effective only on short, visible hair. Two to three days before the procedure, you shave the area to be treated, and allow it to grow to stubble. Avoid waxing or plucking the hair and electrolysis three weeks before treatment. The effectiveness of laser hair removal depends on the characteristics of the individual. Skin type, hair type and pigment are all factors that can determine the outcome for a person. Our guests come to us with a wide array of skin types, hair types and hair problems, but the commonality is their desire for permanent removal. Based on these individual factors, it is our job to determine the best choice of laser and best treatment plan that will produce the most desirable results.

There are two processes considered as permanent underarm epilation procedures. One of them is electrolysis, which involves the targeting of single hair follicles at one time. This procedure can be very expensive, especially if the area to be treated is wider. Laser hair removal on the other hand hits and damages certain cells in the axillary region, thus effectively and permanently removing the hair in the process.

Electrolysis Versus Laser Hair Epilation

Electrolysis has been around for over a century in comparison to laser hair removal which is barely 40 years old in practice. But, age is not the only factor to consider when choosing a permanent hair epilation procedure. Electrolysis is often a painful procedure and has side effects that include burns and scarring. Laser hair removal on the other hand is virtually painless and has fewer side effects when it is used properly. However, laser hair epilation is not effective for fine hair like those present in the face and arms.

In these cases, often the only permanent option is with the use of electrolysis. Bleaching of the fine hairs to make it less noticeable is advised, but it does not last forever. It is therefore important that you choose which procedure you want carefully done so to achieve the full effects. It is also recommended that you be cautious of the side effects as some of them can be very devastating.

Intervals And Frequency

To make hair removal permanent, you have to undergo more than one procedure. The reason for this is the fact that hair on you axillary region grow at different stages and the current electrolysis and laser hair removal process won't be able to target all the hair at one time. Hair removal treatments are usually spaced out between three to twelve weeks.
Technician Versus Experienced Medical Practitioner
There are a lot of vendors that provide laser removal services, but most of the time the people performing the procedure are untrained technicians that do not have the proper degree when it comes to laser hair epilation. These inexperienced and improperly trained individuals are often the cause why some patients are non-responders to the treatment.

Novice technicians may also cause damage to the skin of the armpits. It is therefore advised that you look for a clinic that offers procedure performed or supervised by a licensed technician or plastic surgeon for that matter. This may not totally guarantee that your procedure will be flawless, but at least you know that someone knowledgeable is there in case something goes wrong.
