[P315]Php Vs Asp Net
by Kathy John, Kat
After I have stopped using PHP for few years and started using ASP.NET. I was surprised by the power of the language, the use, and the ease of it. For several years I kept using it. But somehow, I came back to PHP a few months ago; I have visited hundreds of sites, gone through hundreds of code examples and by and large wanted to know what the latest updates in the technology are and how PHP has grown over the years. PHP 5.2 was a main release in PHP so I wished to compare PHP 5.2 with ASP.NET 2.0. I just want to focus on facts. Let's begin.

PHP was developed by Rasmus Ledorf in 1996, and is renowned as Personal Home Page. It was developed primarily to solve simple web development problems, and its library was written in C. It looked for common tags like and execute everything in C mode to give the output in HTML. The main idea behind the PHP was to write web based applications quickly. It is basically an open source and hundreds of programmers all across the world are working at PHP platform. The reason behind using PHP is that each page runs as a separate entity and shares nothing to the whole. For developing websites like facebook.com and yahoo.com, PHP framework is essential. MySQL is the most accepted database that is used with PHP. If you want to build e-commerce modules, face books, blog systems, search engines, then built them in PHP.

ASP.NET ?The language came altogether in January 2002 with windows 2003 server.NET Framework 1.1. Earlier it was called as XSP. The language offers a considerable edge to the developer to think of things they can do. ASP.NET provides more time to the developers to plan the technology, to observe what tools and features would be beneficial to use, what language should they select and offer to programmers who are ultimately going to use it. This language shares some resources and has application pool which shares memory and number of requests. MSSQL SERVER is good when it comes to data integration with ASP.NET.

Both the languages are excellent and as long as there are correct infrastructure in place and right hardware both languages will scale well.
