[P324]Physical Therapy Massage Therapy
by Jonathan Hook, Jon
Many people find that they wake up in the morning with stiff joints, tense muscles, and back pain. Massage therapy is a wonderful remedy for these ailments. But you don't have to be getting on in years to enjoy these remedies.

No matter what your age, you'll find that there are many benefits available through massage therapy, but those who are older and suffer from chronic pain will especially enjoy the relief found in massage.

As people grow older they soon realize that they cannot handle the same level of activity that they enjoyed in their younger years. Massage therapy can be very effective when people have strained or stressed their muscles through exercise.

Whether it is walking, jogging, or playing tennis a therapeutic massage can help increase blood flow, speed healing, and help the boy to recover quickly. Sometimes scar tissue may be the source of the problem. If so, a massage therapist can work wonders. Consult with your health care provider and find out if massage therapy can help with your physical ailments.

Another wonderful benefit found in massage therapy is that it helps the spine and other joints increase in flexibility. Flexibility has said to be the key to youth. As people grow older and lose the ability to stretch, reach, or touch their toes they tend to become less active.

This creates a cycle where stiffness sets in and as a result, the person moves less. By using massage therapy, the muscles and joints become relaxed and flexibility increases. This is an important aspect of remaining in good health.

With the regular practice of massage, blood flow increases and circulation is improved. This has a wonderful effect on the muscles in general but it also helps to promote healing.

People who experience chronic pain due to conditions such as Arthritis or Bursitis or just sore muscles due to daily activities report great results from daily massage.

It is important to realize that relaxation is the key to a successful massage. If it is your first visit to a massage therapist, you may feel nervous or anxious. These emotions will be counterproductive to your massage.

You must take steps to relax and let the massage therapist work their magic. If this means practicing techniques such as deep breathing before the massage, then you should do it.

You'll also find that your mind may wander during the massage. That is perfectly okay. You should do your best to put aside any stressful thoughts during your massage. This is not the time to work out your bills or try to figure out new work strategies.

By taking steps to relax before and during the massage you will derive greater benefits. Once the massage is completed it will be well worth the results.

Massage therapy is one of those rare therapies that it’s almost impossible to find anything negative to report on.
Apart from some basic suggestions about when and how to proceed with care (during pregnancy) and some precautionary measures when using oils etc. I can’t ever recall seeing any bad press at all about massage or massage therapy.
But what about the side effects?
It would be rude not to ask.
Obviously there are side effects, so be sure to proceed with care.
The first side effect is a completely stress free relaxed state.
The second side effect is a brighter, clearer skin condition.
The third side effect is the welcome relief of acute and chronic pain.
The fourth side effect is the immeasurable psychological boost you get by looking and feeling great.
The list extremely beneficial side effects is never ending
You get the picture.
The list of side effects is never ending and includes everything from tension and sterss reduction to improved digestion and improved blood circulation, and any number of other great side effect into the bargain.
Not forgetting the release of euphoria inducing endorphins and amino acids that also work as the body’s natural painkiller.
All positive side effects.
But what about the negative side effects?
As I mentioned earlier, to my knowledge, there are none.
Surely massage therapy can’t be all good news… well, actually, yes it can.
Believe it or not, the benefits of massage and massage therapy are endless and the only precautions you should take are the sensible precautions that you would take anyway.
Given the very real benefits, why isn’t massage therapy part of everyone’s daily routine? Maybe it’s because of a couple of popular misconceptions.
The first misconceptions are that you have to have a medical condition or a strain or an ache or that it can only be prescribed by your G.P.
The second urban mythis that it‘s only something reserved for the wealthy or the rich.
Thankfully it is none of the above. Every single person can and should enjoy the benefits of massage and massage therapy simply because they should.
You just don’t need an excuse to take care of YOU, the most important person in your life.
No other therapy produces such positive and potentially life changing results as massage and massage therapy.
The changes may be subtle or dramatic, visible or invisible, but they are always positive and they are always life changing.
Do yourself a huge favour and decide right now that massage and massage therapy are not the preserve of the wealthy and recognise that there is no earthly reason to deny yourself one of the most enjoyable, relaxing and beneficial activities available.
Ease yourself into the world of massage therapy with the easiest and most empowering massage of all: a facial massage. And best of all it’s free!
On the end of your arms are a masterpiece of design, a triumph of evolution. Your own hands have an intimate knowledge of the face that you present to the world.
Start with what you know and what you can reach, but just start, and watch out for those positive side effects.

To your continued, unbelievable health.
