An increasing number of women all over the world are realizing the benefits of looking good. The 'looking good' pertains to having a beautiful face and a good figure to boot. A decade or so ago this would have gone under the banner of wishful thinking, as there were not many surgical procedures that could enhance the body of a woman. But, developments in modern surgical procedures and specifically cosmetic surgical procedures have meant that in the contemporary world, just about anything is possible.
Breast augmentation is one such surgical development, which has made a whole lot of difference in the lives of women all over the world. As the name, so evidently suggests, breast augmentation is a surgical procedure wherein the size and shape of a woman's breast is enhanced cosmetically. This is accomplished using implants. The reasons, why women go for this type of cosmetic surgical procedure vary from one woman to another. Some might do so for purely cosmetic reasons and others might do so for medical reasons.
The implants used in breast augmentation are made up of silicone rubber shells that are filled with one of the two things: silicone gel that conforms to set medical standards or a salty water solution known as saline.
A person can select the type of method, which will be used to insert and position the implant. It will also be dependant on other factors like the individual's anatomy and the recommendations of the surgeon. Generally, an incision is made in the natural crease that lies beneath the breast to insert the implant. In some cases, it is inserted by means of an incision made around the areola edge or in the armpit. Fine, dissolving stitches are then used to close the incisions. As a means to better support, the sutures are also taped.
The time required to conduct this operation is usually one and a half hours. General anesthesia is used during the course of this procedure. Post-operation, the patient has to stay in the hospital for the night. For this reason, at times, patients and doctors both prefer an operation that can be performed early in the day. You must have realistic expectations from you breast augmentation procedure. In most cases, patients are satisfied with the outcome and have seen a marked improvement in their levels of self-confidence. Breast augmentation experts try to give their patients a natural look that goes a long way in complimenting their figure.
After the surgery, you will face soreness and underlying fatigue for a few days. There will also develop a minimal swelling and bruising, which is a corollary of all surgical procedures. Doctors will prescribe an appropriate medication for the same. A light dressing will cover the incision and it must be kept dry for a period of two weeks. The dressing will be removed after two weeks and the wound will be inspected also be lightly cleaned.
Following the operation, you will have to make regular visits to the doctor in the months to follow. This is necessary, as your doctor needs to keep track of the progress that you have made. The stipulated recovery time for this surgical procedure is between 1-2 weeks, but patients can resume work after a couple of days.
My practice approach to size in breast augmentation is that it is the patient's choice.I do not judgeIsomeone's taste or desires. Breast size is a very individualized issue and is of great interest to every patient. To achieve this objective, I always ask the patient to show me pictures of what size they think looks good and then I try and match that size concept in the operating room. While I always make breast measurements, the most important measurement in my opinion is the base diameter of the patient's breast. Women do not want a breast implant that goes too far to the side and gets in the way of arm movement. Therefore, I keep the breast implant size to no greater than the existing breast base width. If the size is going to exceed the breast base width, then I choose a breast implant of the same size that has a higher projection. In higher projecting breast implants more of the implant's volume comes forward and less to the side.
In the majority of breast augmentation in my practice, I find that most women select sizes that would be viewed as 'reasonable'. Most of my breast augmentation patients choose breast implants in the size range of 300cc to 450cc. The rest of my breast augmentation patients get implants in the 450 - 700cc size range. In a taller and heavier patient, these breast implant szies may appear not unduly large. For smaller women, these breast implant sizes would be considered quite large.
While it is not my concern when a patient chooses alarge breast implant, I have an oblication to inform them that there are some long-term consequences to that choice. First and foremost, it is easy to increase the size of the breast but it is difficult to go the other way. To go down in breast szie later in life, the excess skin may also have to be reduced to maintain a good breast shape, resulting in breast scars. Secondly, the bigger a breast implant, the more pressure it exerts on the remaining breast tissue resulting in long-term loss of their remaining breast tissue. In many large breast implants over time, the patient will only be left with skin and a breast implant with little breast tissue in between. Lastly, the weight of a very large breast implant over time may cause the entire breast to sag, weakening the skin support of the breast under its own weight.
Inchoosing large breast implants, patients need to know that how they may view their breasts years later may be quite different. Like that nice cute tattoo that was put on in your twenties, it may not look so cute when you are forty.
