[P391]Pictures On Web Pages
by John V. W. Howe, Joh
You all know that the web page you are viewing is generated by your browser from the HTML code that it received when you told it to load this page. If you are using Internet Explorer to read this article, position your cursor in the middle of the page away from any table or graphic and right click your mouse. On the drop down box, click View Source. Notepad will open a window that will display the HTML code for the page that you are viewing.

If you do this on a page with a picture or graphic, you will not see the picture or graphic embedded in the HTML, but rather in its place, you will see some HTML code that says this:

"width="197" height="154">

Author's note: If you see the HTML tags xmp and /xmp these are added in this article to tell the browser not to consider what is between them as executable HTML, but rather, print it as text.

?img src=? is the HTML tag that tells the browser where the file is located that contains the image. The numbers after it are the size of the picture in pixels on the screen.

As an example, go to this link to see the picture on our eBay Boomer Retirement Store http://members.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewUserPage&userid=e--boomer.

When our About Me page loads, position your cursor over our picture and right click (Assuming you are using MS Internet Explorer). Select Properties on the drop down box. It will tell you where the picture is located on the Net. In this case, the picture location is:

www (dot) boomer-ezine.com/images/Linda_John (dot).JPG

If you click the above link, you will be able to view a larger copy of the picture directly from the boomer-ezine.com website.

Here is the concept that is amazing. You are viewing this page on your computer located where you live, the eBay web site host is sending the page to you from California, USA, and the picture is coming from the website host for Boomer eZine located in Kentucky, USA.

Isn't this technology great? You can post a picture on any website on the Net and you can load it into the page of any another website. The amazing thing is that all this is done in the time it takes for the browser to load and format the page. This is why sometimes you see the page text load first and the pictures loads a little slower. Also, if you see a blank picture frame with a small red X in it, this means that the link to the picture is broken or the website host is down and the picture cannot not be accessed.

If you do not have a website to host your own pictures, there are websites that provide free picture hosting. Go to the website www.eaph.com (Easy Auction Picture Hosting) and take a look. Search Google for others. There are many of them on the Net.

Good luck with building your website.

We all hear a ton of talk about Keywords and Optimizations, but just what do these words mean and what is their significance in relation to Adsense?

Well, I can tell you that keywords are such a vital part of web sites and Adsense that I could point you to a thousand books and e-books on the subject of Keywords that would have your head buzzing. Instead let's try and talk some sense.

So, just what are Keywords? Without doubt, they are the cornerstone of all good web sites, and there are varying reports on how many Keywords there should be on a web site. Some say no more than 20 and others advocate hundreds. So, who is right? Again there is no certainty about that. It will depend on your site, what you are selling and the context thereof.

Adsense ads bear very close relationship to the Keywords that are spread throughout your page. By that, I don't mean that your page should read "keyword, keyword, and keyword" - because that will antagonize everyone and everything. You see, keywords should flow naturally within the context of the page and should NOT stand out, but be a natural part of a sentence. The other way will achieve precisely nothing!

When I first started to put Adsense ads onto my sites, my earnings were around zero. Soon after, I discovered that my Keywords were not as compatible with the content of my web site as they should be and therefore the Adsense ads were not truly relevant to the theme of the page. So here comers optimizations!

I'm sure we are all aware that there is software available that will produce Keywords with a pay per click price tag attached. Great, - but like any business you have to buy some equipment, even if it's an old computer or typewriter! You can't set up a business for nothing.

So, you've got to get the right Keywords for your site and they have to be optimized, or very closely relevant to your page/pages, and complete with what search engines are looking for.

It was when this dawned on me and I took the appropriate action, my Adsense income started to rise. So I 'optimized' all the other sites I have.
A word of warning here - There are web sites out there who are selling "Adsense ready web sites". Ostensibly, all you have to do is change the Google code for your own, upload them to the web and away you go!

Yes, I was sucked in, before I got wise and no, they don't work. I haven't had time yet to 'tweak' them, but I will now that I have the knowledge and software to do it with.

It is so easy and fast to produce your own high powered keywords, which when incorporated into your web page will produce income from Adsense and the software is not expensive for what it produces. Please bear in mind that any business requires start-up costs.

Adsense is a great income producer, but you MUST know what you're doing. Its no good diving in head first and expecting results It requires thought, planning and proper execution, and you must constantly monitor and tweak, if necessary, to reap the full benefits of Adsense ads.

If you have any questions relating to software or anything else, and I'll try and answer your questions or point you in the right direction.
