So many times in our life we find the need for some kind of translation service. Many of us just do not take the time to recognize how many or how financially beneficial translation can be if we were to only look close enough. Translation sectors can be diverse. It is obvious in the financial world how much it is needed, but would you think of all the small ways in life and other businesses that translation services are needed and provided.

Some areas we see on an every day basis. Stop and think about when your children are playing the latest and greatest video game. Would they really know how to play if all of its content was written in Japanese? Would you be able to use a computer, if you could not figure out what button to click, in order to type up a business proposal that is due at work the next day? Functions that if you, the operator, did not know how to work the computer, and could create quite a kink in your career plans.

History has shown us that the risk of war is always on the horizon, due to differences in governments and how they are run. By having translators and translation services by their side, world leaders avoid miscommunication. Little do we think in these terms, but in their own way, translators are actually their own kind of peacekeeper.

Looking at the industry of movie making, it can be a multi-billion dollar business. Film festivals worldwide use films shot in foreign countries to draw in their audiences. Such movies make use of subtitles to translate the script from a foreign language, to the native language of the audience. It also can be one of the most cost-effective methods of translating the content and meaning behind the film. Movie critics praise using this format of viewing because you, the movie viewer, are able to hear the original voices of the actors/actresses and the original dialogue.

Could the world of business benefit from being more receptive to translating? Yes, it could mean adding a whole new market to their bottom line. It seems that many companies see using a translation service as a cost and not the investment it truly is. Unfortunately, the business world looks at the dollar amount, first and quality of the product, second.

Two companies, without the help of translation services, can only have a very limited exchange of ideas. Some hand gestures, a nod and a well-intentioned mispronounced, grammatically incorrect "How are you?" is about all that would be possible. CEO's realize little the many strategic advantages they could have by having information about their product line translated into as many languages as possible.

Customer's disposable income, worldwide, would be filling up their coffers. But, only if they take time to steer their marketing division in the correct direction. They should take a moment to find a translation service that does quality work. Utilize translators in their marketing scheme, research the culture they are selling to and make their marketing decisions with the consultation of customers in all the countries that will be affected. This will allow a common goal to be formed. That goal is to sell the same product according to each countries preferences.

Translation services can change our environment. They create an atmosphere that opens up communication for businesses. Every day our lives are touched by translators. Amazingly enough, most of us don't even take time to realize it.

Within past years modern electronic communication has created extensive business opportunities for freelance translators. They are able to reach clients from all over the world and perform their jobs at their own convenience. It appears to be a dream profession, but yet so many translators report that it's challenging to keep their previous clients, and that the number of clients they served has diminished. One would like to know why this takes place.

First of all, one need to be aware that nowadays there is a great competition on the market, and clients are very selective. So how do I make sure that clients will return to me, not to my competitor? There are clients who constantly need translation services, and they actually prefer to use the same translator for many different projects. They will only cooperate with you again if they were satisfied with your previous services. It is also to your advantage to be familiar with complains the clients have made about translation services in the past. The most common ones are:

1. The project was not finished on time.

2. The translator demonstrated poor language skills: grammar, spelling, punctuation, omitted words, etc.

3. The translator misunderstood the formation of the translation project. He/she used different font, style. He/she did not translate the images. He/she did not include tables, etc.

4. The translator showed poor communication skills. He/she was not flexible enough. He/she has never notified when a problem occurred during the translation process.

5. The translator was hard to reach at his/her office. He/she did not provide adequate mailing address and all the documents kept returning to the sender.

6. The translator turned out to be not reliable. He/she assured he/she knew the dialect of the language but did not demonstrate this skill. He/she advertised himself/herself as a legal translator but never certified his/her work. When returning the project he/she did not include the original seal. He/she never corrected his/her previous mistakes even though he/she promised to do so.

7. The translator was not culturally sensitive. He/she presented himself/herself as a native speaker but did not know all the aspects of the culture.

8. The translator never returned money. He/she admitted that the translation was poorly done and promised to recompense but never did.

9. The translator did not respond well to constrictive criticism.

In order to stand out from the competition, and have your previous clients come back to you, one ought to perform self –evaluation after each translation project. Be critical about your skills and ask your clients for feedbacks. Even the negative ones might provide you with another perspectives and ideas on how to improve your skills and develop your professional growth. Sometimes constrictive criticism leads to a positive change. And positive feedbacks guarantee good promotion, trust among clients, and more projects.
