It makes sense when buying a new computer to go ahead and get the most current operating system available, as long as it will be trouble free.
That said, unless you are unhappy for some reason with your current version of Windows, the expense of upgrading to Windows Vista is really not justified at this point. That will undoubtedly change when the software publishers start releasing new versions. You will also need to consider the cost of upgrading those software packages when that time comes.

You cannot install the upgrade version of Vista after you have formatted your hard drive, this features has been took off. If you want to do this you will have to have the full version of Windows Vista which will enable you to start from scratch.
