[S386]Shooting In Virginia Tech
by Jayden Adams, Jay
It's little wonder that Ignatius Piazza, the founder and director of Front Sight Firearms Training Institute, America's largest gun training school, wouldn't want stricter gun laws anywhere in America - but it's increasingly obvious that Ignatius Piazza's opinion on gun laws matches the opinions of everyone else in the country who takes the time to consider the ramifications of gun laws. With the families of the victims of Virginia Tech deciding that they know best for the state of Virginia, Ignatius Piazza and Front Sight are urging Americans to realize the folly of gun restrictions.

Ignatius Piazza has long been a proponent of a simple reading of the Second Amendment: clearly the Founding Fathers wanted the people to have rights to bear arms. Any other interpretation is too much and lends itself to inaccuracy. Being the founder and director of the gun training school which delivers firearms training to more students annually than all other major shooting schools in America combined, Ignatius Piazza has a lot of reason to be opposed to gun restrictions. But Front Sight is more than just a business endeavor to Ignatius Piazza. For Ignatius Piazza, and all the students of Front Sight, it is a place where responsibility is imbued into citizens - in the form of gun training.

In the opinion of Ignatius Piazza, firearms training is self defense training - and the more gun training one may receive, the better protected one can be in the event of a terrible accident, much like the one at Virginia Tech. Self protection is obviously vitally important to Americans. Unlike any other country in the world, the American government is not so terrified of its own subjects that most firearms are allowed to citizens. However, this does not mean that gun rights are as universal as they should be.

The families of Virginia Tech are attempting to create gun laws that would make it more difficult for an individual to own a gun. Their thinking on this is something along the lines that the fewer people who own guns, the safer everyone else will be. Unfortunately this is not the case. Not owning guns does not keep people safe from guns, Ignatius Piazza will be the first to tell you that. The desk of Front Sight's director is filled with stories of unarmed citizens killed or shot in their own homes, unarmed. Ignatius Piazza's students are living proof that gun training keeps people safe from guns.

Firearms training is what can keep people safe from firearms. Although it may shock or horrify those Virginia Tech families at first, the fact is that if anyone in that school had been armed and had received gun training in their past, they would have ended the Virginia Tech student's murderous rampage and could have saved as many as thirty-two innocent lives.

As Virginia Tech families react to the massacre which took place a few months ago, America must not be drawn into their irrational recoil. Gun restriction will not equal out to gun safety. Gun training will create gun safety. Firearms training will save lives. Ignatius Piazza and Front Sight urge Virginia lawmakers and all of America to realize that laws preventing citizens from owning guns will only harm all of us.
