[S401]Short Break Holidays Uk
by Shaun Parker, Sha
Of course, people do realise that a good hotel can make a difference between a bad trip and an excellent trip but most people simply see it as a base camp, somewhere to lay their head at night and something to be had as cheap as possible.

However, with the fuel price increase, holidays are getting ever more expensive and something that few of us can afford these days. We can, however, choose a beautiful location in the English countryside, book hotel accommodation the best we can afford, which will be much more than splashing out on a foreign holiday, and take a short break that will relax you more than joining the throngs crammed into an airport, onto a beach and into a bar.

I put this theory to the test myself. Finding that I couldn't afford a foreign holiday, I used a fraction of the money that it would have cost and booked myself a room with en-suite in a gorgeous old hotel, set in beautifully scenic grounds. The bed was the most comfortable I had ever slept in, the peace and quiet was palpable and the service from the staff impeccable.

Strolling in the grounds of the hotel provided fresh air, beautiful sights of well cared for foliage and peaceful, relaxing exercise. The hotel food was of top quality as was the room service. I slept like a baby, like I hadn't slept in years. After three days of this, it was time to take the forty minute drive home again.

When I arrived home, I felt so relaxed that you would think I had been on a three week holiday, not a cheap three day break using nothing more than hotel accommodation. So, how is this possible?

For a start, there were no boring airport waits, no frantic flights and no uncertainty about where I would end up staying and whether my hotel accommodation would look out onto a brick wall. There was no issue with time - it did not take me twelve hours to get to my destination. I was able speak the lingo. There was no need to worry about foreign currency and if anything went wrong I was within easy reaching distance of home.

After a short car journey, I found myself to be in a beautiful place that I had previously overlooked. I had a three day break that was the ultimate in relaxation and re-cooperation. To top it all off, I hadn't spent a fortune.

So, when you realise that you have had just about all you can take of whinging colleagues, stressful families and doom and gloom on the news, the option is there to take a short break in a hotel. You don't need to pay out for expensive holidays, although that option is always there and will always be valid for those of us lucky enough to be well off. But don't overlook the short break in a hotel down the road. Simply escaping your everyday life can be just as exhilarating as a full on holiday to foreign climes.

When Christmas comes for example, the goose will be getting fat-and for many people around the world this will mean a well needed break. Whether you celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, or don't celebrate anything at all, this time of year tends to mean time spent with family and that means time away from your work at home.

There are many ways that you can buy out time for family if you want to, but whether you want to and how much time you take off is a personal choice. The basis of that choice is in part economic.

You can take buy out time for your family by working a little harder both before and after the time that you plan to be away. By getting ahead of your work, you can safely take off a day or more without the risk of losing your income. This is an important consideration for many at home workers since they do not get paid vacation, and yet they cannot afford to simply not earn for a few days.

The other side of the coin to consider is that when the majority of the country wants to avoid work to be with their family, there is an ever growing need for those few people who are willing to work. Some companies will pay more-time and a half, or even as much as double or triple the normal rate of pay to entice people into working at those times. What if you do not work for a company that pays extra-is there any point in working?

If you offer a service for your chosen work, you can charge quite literally whatever you want to. A computer repair specialist or a web programmer may be called upon on Christmas day to repair a computer or web site that has gone drastically wrong and that thus is costing your client money. In a situation like this, the client is likely to be willing to pay double your normal rate to get the work done swiftly-and if not, they may choose to simply wait till the following day when your rates go down.

A particularly loyal customer may deserve in your opinion, to get service without paying through the nose. Again this is your choice as the owner operator of your business-but you must always remember that charging too much for a loyal customer may cost you that return customer.

For those people who make items for sale, it may be possible to take time off without any loss. You cannot ship items on the major holidays-but could still cash in on the holiday rush.

There will always be people who forget gifts and end up having to buy something at the very last minute. If you are willing to ship things by very fast shipping services, you can charge a small premium to handle this extra work on your own behalf.

The final decision may not be yours; instead your family may decide that having you with them is more important than the income that you could bring in by working those days. If that is the case then try to forget work, because it will still be there when you get back, and instead have fun!
