[S722]Somethings Gotta Give Kitchen
by Alix Montoya, Ali
When you're thinking of a remodeling job for your kitchen, the best way to go to give it a whole new look is by changing the flooring. There are literally hundreds of options available in the market today and the choices can be overwhelming. The best thing is, you can have it changed back easily in case you dislike the new installation.
Usually, when installing a new floor for a kitchen, the old floor stays underneath and a new floor is placed on top. This is a great option if the old floor is in good condition. But if your kitchen's floor continues to other parts of the house with a different flooring, your kitchen's floor will be a bit higher than the rest of the house. Unless you're okay with this, you might want to get the old floor out first before putting in the new.
If you're thinking of vinyl for your new kitchen floor, your best bet would be to buy it in sheets. In choosing which adhesive to stick it to the floor with, you need to use the brand that's recommended by the maker of the vinyl sheets so it would stick better. Make a simple template out of paper or cardboard for all measurements inside the room and place it around the edges for a quick estimate before laying down the actual vinyl on the floor.
If you're planning a more contemporary and modern look for your kitchen, then try polished concrete. It's as more durable than marble but cheaper and easier to maintain. There's a lot of people realizing what a great idea it is to just stick with their old concrete floor and have it polished to give it that beautiful sheen you get from other stone and granite floor, without the added cost.

Does your kitchen still look like something left over from the 70's? Would you like to make over your kitchen but do not have the 25 to $30,000.00 it would take to remodel? If you answered yes to either or both of these questions a cabinet facelift may be just the ticket. But simply changing the color, the layout and adding a few accent pieces of trim you can change the whole look of your kitchen.

The first up is to visit your local home store and spend some time looking at the displays and they have set up. But this would give you a good idea of color combinations and ideas for adding accents to your cabinets. This many cabinets are a standard size you may be able to swap out one or more of your cabinets with a new style. For example if you have a corner cabinet you can The raise the height of it this will have a dramatic effect as it breaks up a continuous line of cabinets. Cabinets are generally screwed together and to the wall so raising a cabinet is simply a matter of removing the screws from the back and from the sides sliding the cabinet up to the new desired height and reattaching.

There are a couple of ways to change the color of your cabinets one way is to paint your cabinets. If your cabinets and doors are made of solid wood you can stain them. Another good option is to have new doors and drawer fronts made this can usually be done by a local cabinet shop. A solid wood veneer can then be added to your face frame that can be stain to match your new doors. Of course in order to do this you do need to start with good quality cabinets, cabinets that are falling apart should be replaced.

If you have several choices when it comes to accent pieces for your cabinets the best accent pieces are those that also add some functionality to your cabinets for example and appliance garage that hides your toaster for coffee maker. A crown molding along the top edge of your cabinets adds a nice touch of elegance. If other options to consider would be adding a glass panel door to one of your cabinets and don't forget more than most dramatic accents can be in your choice of hardware the choices is up to you.
