You may have heard of Berber carpet and you may have also heard that a lot of people choose this over many other types of carpet and other flooring materials. The reason is because it can help to insulate the room better, as well as looking good and feeling soft to touch. You probably have only heard about all of the advantages and benefits of having Berber carpets. The thing is though, that as with anything there are disadvantages and if you knew about them, it may help to influence your overall decision.
What is wrong With Berber Carpets Then?
The thing that you may have not known is that Berber isn't actually a type of carpet but in fact it is a type of weave of carpet. You can actually buy Berber carpets that use many different fibers such as nylon, wool, polyester and olefin as well as some others too. Nylon and wool Berber carpets are extremely good but it can falter a bit when other fibers have been used.
The problem lies in some of the most popular Berber which is made from Olefin and the colors are actually quite limited from this cheap Berber. You will find that over time and after cleaning, it can actually turn a different color which is not pleasing to the eye or good news either. If it does turn a different color, it is not down to the cleaning habits but in fact because the carpet has been made from this cheap Berber. If you decide to go for Berber, make sure that it has been produced completely with nylon or wool as you can not beat it for quality.
So, if you have heard about it being top quality and it isn't wool or nylon made, then it might just be a ploy to ship off cheap carpet for high prices.
One problem with Berber carpets is that they can easily unravel at the ends and also can snag easily as well. If you clean Berber, you need to be careful and you shouldn't scrub it as you could easily ruin it. Also if you try to move any furniture across this carpet, you could end up with scorch marks and they can be extremely hard if not impossible to get out. It can also be quite hard to clean because the fibers trap dirt deep into the carpet and it is harder to get to it.
So if you are deciding to get Berber carpet, do your research first and make sure that you get the quality Berber; otherwise you could be getting something different to what you expected.
