If you want your web-based business to be an ample and consistent money maker, you need to make a thoughtful choice of your general approach. When I began my Internet adventures, there were no role models available, no one to help you create your marketing plan, and not many choices to available when it came to making money online.

Search engines were very simple and basic by today's standards. Search Engine Optimization (SEO) was virtually unheard of, and there were few people promoting scams online. Pretty much everyone attempting online marketing was on his own.

Some tried, as I did, to set up online stores, or if they were more ambitious to create online malls. Most of these, perhaps all of them, failed - usually for lack of online traffic.

Certainly not one of my early attempts became a real money maker. The technology for secure online credit card transactions was in its infancy and what few visitors saw these websites were leery of risking their credit card information online. Creating a money maker website was a serious challenge.

Today things are very different. The security of online transactions is superb due to the integration of modern cryptography in the Internet community. Most businesses have websites and the public is generally aware of the convenience of ordering want they want online.

In short, commercial dealings via the Internet are commonplace today, and online business is booming.

Now there are a lot many great money makers out there. So the opportunities to make money online are legion, as are the opportunities to fail, and the opportunities to be scammed by the unscrupulous. So there are some serious choices to be made before you get started.

Your Choices

There are basically four avenues for you to consider in determining the course of action that you should pursue in your desire to make money online.

One of them you will definitely want to avoid. One of these strategies may work if you have enough savvy to use it, and two of them definitely work, though your choice of which one to employ should be given careful consideration. I call these choices:

* Big Money Maker" Online Scams,

* Go It Alone,

* Niche Marketing With SEO, and

* Race Like The Tortoise

I strongly recommend that you study each approach carefully before deciding which methodology is for you. My favorite is the last choice, but you may prefer one of the others, so I'll show you the pros and cons of each in subsequent articles, and you can choose for yourself. Let's start with the "big money-maker" online scam.

You need to decide how you are going to build your website, HTML or PHP. Now you might not know anything about either, but you might decide to buy some software, which will help you by doing all the coding for you. Once you have mastered it, you can then consider being an affiliate of that product and show that your site was built using it.

Most products and services have free affiliate programs and they are easy to sign up to. Once you sign up to an affiliate program you'll get a unique link assigned to you. Place that link or banner on your Website and every time someone purchases a product through your link you'll get a set percentage of the sell.

When you create your own website, you will need a domain name and hosting, and again this is where you can make money through their affiliate links. You can have links to both the hosting and domain companies that you have used.

If you have a good experience with the companies, then you can speak from your personal experience. These companies can be promoted regardless of the niche you finally chose to have your website on.

Once you have decided on your niche, and the products you are going to promote on the site, then you need to start building your website.

You will also need to decide if you are going to use AdSense to make any money from the people who click through your site. Google Adsense is a free advertising program that pays you every time someone clicks on an ad that they provide you with. Implementation is very easy (copying and pasting a simple code) and the payout depends on your ?niche.? It's normally somewhere around 50 cents to a dollar per click.

Have an opt-in form for your visitors, where you will collect their name and email and then start to email them promoting different items that they would be interested in. These products of course will be sold through your affiliate link.

Don't just send them a promotional newsletter but consider the format carefully. You need to have some information on the email, and then have a product included in the newsletter as well. As your list gets to know you, they will be expecting to see some promotion from you. But, it is easier to sell related products to them than something they have no interest in.

If you have a website which gives tips on how to raise your children, then you should promote books that will help them. Promoting something that isn't directly related to the topic of your Website will not convert nearly as well as a product that covers the exact topic.

Keep your website relevant to the niche you are in. Find products which you can promote and sell, and then use your website to become a great salesperson. Once you do this you will be able to make money from your website.
