[S465]Signs Of Stress Fracture
by Allan Tan, All
The ball of our foot plays a major role in most of our daily lives and in all sorts of physical activities that we perform, even when we are sitting down we put some strain to it. And when pain sets in one day, you ask yourself this question, will you ever get rid of this terrible pain. When you starts to feel a great deal of pain and strain when you put your foot against the ground, or when you run, there is a possibility that you are suffering from metatarsal foot pain or what we call metatarsalgia.

In layman terms, metatarsalgia simply means metatarsal foot pain and this condition is simply due to a sore bone or bones in the metatarsal of your forefoot. Inflammation and pain in the metatarsal area are the main signs that you are suffering from metatarsalgia. This condition is frequent among athletes and those who do high-contact sports. Activities like basketball, gymnastics and many other sports put high pressure on the feet and, without proper care and rest, inflammation and pain may occur leading to the said disorder. Excessive running and jumping can stress the metatarsal, which is the name for the long bones found in the front part of your feet just a little bit below your toes.

Even though metatarsal foot pain is not particularly critical and has any life-long harmful effect, it can certainly weaken your ability. If you are in a physical career and your mobility and use of your feet are vital to your work, metatarsalgia may pose a major problem. This disorder is highlighted by sharp pain that continuously gets worse after prolonged periods of activity. This is followed by numbness or tingling in the toes that eventually worsens even when you rest and relax your feet.

The immediate remedy for this disorder is rest. Prevent pressure from being applied to your feet. Soaking your feet in ice cold water probably will help reduce the pain and revitalise your feet. Hence wearing proper shoes and impact absorbing footwear will greatly help stop metatarsalgia from happening. Since metatarsalgia is more like a symptoms than an illness, it is so much easier to do prevention and treatment over time. More often than not, this disorder is simply a byproduct of bad maintenance and improper foot care.

Learn to be responsible in taking care of your feet. Like a well-oiled and maintained care, your feet can go a long way without any further complications. Exercise and a balanced diet are important to athletes and to you as well, but take time to consider the little things like the balls of your feet, and take that much deserved vacation to relax when needed.
