[T43]Tanning Beds Vitamin D
by Larry Scott, Lar
For many, owning a residential tanning bed may seem like a decadent luxury reserved for the rich and famous, but the secondary tanning bed market, leasing, and a wide range of financing options have made them viable options for just about anyone who has the floor space to accommodate one.

Used tanning beds can be purchased when commercial tanning salons go out of business, via auction services like eBay, through local advertisements and vendors who specialize in buying and selling used equipment. The beds are often in great working condition and may need nothing more from you than new lights and general maintenance and upkeep. Unfortunately, buying a used residential tanning bed is a gamble because you don't know for sure how long the equipment will last, and it is unlikely you will receive much of a warrantee.

That leaves purchasing a new bed and either paying for it through your own savings or credit card, or vendor financing. For people with poor credit or little savings, this may not be an option.

The final option is residential tanning bed leasing. Normally for a period of 24-36 months, you sign a lease to use the bed. At the end of that period, you can return the bed to the leasing company or you may have the option to purchase the bed for a predetermined amount. This gives you the option of trying out a bed for a while, then moving on to a different model at the end of the lease period ? no strings attached. The lease payments may not cost you much more than you spend at a tanning salon now.

Owning a residential tanning bed is now an affordable luxury to more people than ever, and it is a great way to avoid scheduling conflicts that accompany the use of a commercial bed.

Commercial tanning beds operate on the basis of two main components, namely the electrical system that charges the array of lamps and the lamps that emit ultra violet rays to generate melanin in the skin resulting to a tanner complexion. The electrical system operates the lamps in a regulated and reliable manner that is highly efficient. It is prudent to check whether there is a need for additional electrical devices, such as a buck booster transformer. A cooling system should be installed to protect the unit against excessive heat and to increase its reliability.

When buying a tanning bed, a consumer should consider the warranty offered by the manufacturer. The various components of the tanning system have different warranties. It is better to opt for makers that provide a lifetime warranty as opposed to those who offer only the limited 30-day warranty. A huge investment such as this should prompt buyers to understand what the warranty covers and know about the after sale service that comes with the purchase. It is also wise to ask for a list of the parts that will require replacement and maintenance and to seek out possible suppliers of the components to be replaced. The maintenance tasks involved in a tanning system usually include cleaning the unit, changing the tanning lamps and installing acrylics.

The physical appearance of the tanning bed is also a consideration. The look of the bed will give the buyer an idea on where to situate the bed or how to design and decorate the tanning room or area. The installation of the system also requires much thought, a tanning bed made of metal or steel is more durable than one made of plastic. It is also important to take note that welded units are more stable than bolted structures.

The selected space where the commercial tanning bed will be placed is usually limited. It is important to carefully plan the room design and layout based on the size of the unit. The room or area should have enough space to allow users to be able to move around freely and comfortably. Additional accessories must have a space where they can be stowed. Some manufacturers offer space-saver designs and there are vertical tanning systems, known as tanning booths, that are ideal for smaller areas and are worth checking out.
