Everybody wants to live in a clean house. There's nothing like having guests over and having them say: ?Oh, wow, your house is spotless.? Among other things of course. Unfortunately, not everybody has the time or the inclination to keep their house clean. There is just so much to do: work, school, and drive the kids to daycare. It just gets pushed down the list.
Here's where you come in. For every person that keeps their house spotless, there's a person who'd rather not. Someone who's either too tired, too busy or too caught up in other things to keep their house clean. That someone could be the someone who will be willing to pay you to clean for them.
Starting a house cleaning business may seem like a strange idea for a job but think about it: people live in houses. Houses get dirty. It's inevitable. Dust settles on furniture. Mud gets tracked in. Some people hate cleaning. If you enjoy a job well-done and would love to have your own business, then a house cleaning business might be the perfect way for you to become your own boss.
Starting a house cleaning business may be daunting but here a few easy steps that you can follow to successfully start your own business!
1. Plan it out. Planning out your business is the first step that you should take. Take some time to write things down. Where do you want to run it from? How much money are you willing to invest in it? Are you planning to work alone or hire from the get go. Asking yourself questions like these in the beginning can easily hurdle some of the things that you are thinking about.
2. Register! Register your business name and what type of business you have at your local Chamber of Commerce and with your business associations. This can also help you get some ready contacts that you can use when your business is up and running.
3. Get your equipment. Because it's a house cleaning business, you can easily just gather the equipment in your own home. It's best to bring your own equipment with you when you go clean houses, that way you don't waste time borrowing your materials. If your clients want you to use a specific solvent, they'll most likely provide it for you. You can start today with just your vacuum cleaner, a duster and rags that you use to clean your own home.
4. Print up marketing materials. A good business card can help net you those important clients. Print up a brochure with your pricing and services. Not sure how to price? Call up other cleaning services in the area and compare your own.
5. Make use of your contacts. Tell people about your business, after all, the best promotion is through word of mouth. You can easily get clients in your own family. Have an aunt with a new baby too harassed to think about cleaning her home? Do it for a fee. Do a great job and the calls will start coming in.
These are the few basic steps that you need to start your own house cleaning business. It's simple and it's easy. Why work and be a drone when you can be your own boss? It's easy to start your own house cleaning business. As long as people have houses, condos and apartments, you've got a job.

With a house cleaning business, the most basic form of advertising is handing out flyers in the neighborhood that you want to work. Start with this. If you don't have a computer and printer, use one belonging to a friend or one at your local library. One way or another, get a flyer together and get 100 to 200 copies of it that you can put on doors. Be sure to include your phone number on the flyers.
It may take a two or three times of doing this, but if you've chosen the neighborhood wisely you should have enough incoming phone calls to result in your first customer. Once you've got your first customer and are set up with your first cleaning schedule, ask the customer if they have a vacuum, and if they care if you use it when cleaning. You can also ask about other cleaning supplies. Don't be bashful about asking, and don't think it's rude. If someone has an issue with you asking, then just politely tell them it's "no problem". Even if you lose a potential customer over this, it isn't a big deal. Don't let it discourage you. Remember, you are trying to start with nothing... so there may be a few more bumps than if you already had your supplies.
When it comes time to clean the house, gather whatever additional supplies are needed from your own house to clean the house, and put them in a nice looking box or plastic tub. Take that to the appointment and clean away! Just focus on one or two customers at first until you have built enough funds to purchase the necessary cleaning equipment to take on more houses. The whole point of your first customer or two is to get funds to use for your actual business start-up. Once you have built up the needed money, you can buy the needed supplies, start using other effective forms of advertising, and increase your marketing efforts until your client base has reached the desired size.
Some people think that it takes money to make money. This just isn't true. Virtually anyone can start a cleaning business with very little or no money. You just have to be determined, persistent, and willing to work hard and be creative when you get in a "crunch".
You've now been given one simple and straight-forward method to starting a business of your own with no money up front. There are, of course, other methods and options available to those willing to give it some time and effort. No matter what your situation, don't allow yourself to think that you "can't do this" just because you have a restrictive budget. You CAN Do this, and you will... and this article may very well be your starting point.
