[S878]Standard Chartered Online Banking
by Johnjames, Joh
When I first heard about virtual banking, I thought they were frauds and I was really skeptic about them. The truth of the matter is that virtual banks, once insured by the FDIC, are real and they provide services like any other banks with higher interest on your savings and lesser interest on the loans you receive.

Some critics argue that banks only take time to perfect the usability of their site and not the safety. Others believe online banking is the best thing that has happened to the banking sector. With different issues being publicized about online banking, I believe only time can tell us where it will take us, but the usefulness and convenience of online banking can't be debated.

Online banking has a lot of benefits. This has made it so popular in American in particular and other parts of the world in general. One of the benefits is that you as a customer can access your account without standing in line just to talk to a bank teller. Also, you get to pay your bills and carry out other transactions at your convenience.

Making deposits in an online account from check payment is often longer than the usual banking methods. You may have to post your check or first pay into another bank account before electronically transferring into your online account. That's why it takes longer time and attracts charges from other institution like the post office or the other bank account charges.

If you have an account with a virtual bank, you will require using the ATM machines of other financial institutions. Often, the other financial institutions set out charges every time you use their ATM machines. This is part of the hidden charges in online banking.

Online banking can facilitate offshore banking, where you can run a bank account from a country that is not your country of residence. Offshore banking can help reduce the tax you pay on your income and also protect your earnings from local instabilities such as political or financial imbalances. Offshore banking is powered by internet banking.

Do you tend to always overrun your credit and incur excess charges by using your credit cards? With online banking you can now use a debit card or your ATM card to make payment at point of sales terminals. You don't here to incur excess on credit charges when you can spend directly from your account.

Do you know that your online bank account can be so flexible to operate that you can re-schedule your payment whenever you need to? It is quite unlike the corner banking where you have to use hours in processing with lots of inconveniences.

When you join Egg and login for the first time, you will notice how tight the security is for their online banking accounts. They will ask you for the information you used when you signed up for an online banking account. This looks great, but how secure is it?

Most of the information can be received and used by almost any body. All they need is five minutes of your time. The login will require your first name and surname, your date of birth, and your zip code. Egg will then ask two security questions to make sure that it is you. They will ask for your mother's maiden name and your "special password," which will allow you to login in the event that you lose your real password.

That is all you need to login to your Egg online banking account, which is why some are apprehensive about joining Egg and other online banks with similar levels of security. All of the information-other than your password-is very easy to crack. And even passwords can be easy to crack, as people often use the same password for email accounts and other accounts. This means that if a hacker cracks any of these accounts at some point, they can access all of your accounts.

Egg obviously warns customers about this, but many people do not heed it, as they do not want to be bothered to remember another password.

Egg should step up their security quickly. They have a lot of customers and a lot of money stored in their online banking accounts-and if they cannot guarantee safety, this will spell trouble if a hacker or phisher concentrates on scamming Egg account owners.

For now, if you plan to use Egg or any online banking for that matter, you should create a new password for your account and take measures to obscure the rest of your data. This will ensure that your information remains safe and your money remains in your account.
