[S1196]Swine Flu How To Protect Yourself
by Anna Rushton, Ann
The symptoms are of course very similar to any other flu you might experience: fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, chills and fatigue so report to your doctor if you have these. However, what you also need to do is focus on strengthening your own immune response to prevent infection getting a hold and developing.

1 This time of year I usually have stopped taking Echinacea, but it is my first port of call to build up my defences and if you can get Echinacea tincture that is the most effective in my opinion. Boots produce their own and there is an excellent one made by Bioforce from helath stores. Take it daily for three weeks then a week off.

2 Next increase the amount of vitamin C you are taking, at least 1 gram a day in two 500mg doses is the most effective. Have as natural and unprocessed diet as you can, and juicing your fruit and vegetables gets you the maximum vitamins from them.

3 Your body requires oxygen for every cell to function properly because viruses can neither survive nor thrive in it. Therefore, the best defence against microbes, germs, harmful bacteria and viruses, such as the swine influenza virus, is to keep the body oxygenated. Add in eggs to your diet as they are excellent for improving your oxygen absorption. See the healthy bites item on eggs below.

4 Are you breathing deeply enough? Shallow breathing will not bring enough oxygen into so your system, and being out in the fresh air every day is a must. Walking at a moderate pace while breathing in for a count of six, and out for a count of six, is one of the simplest ways to do this. If you find a count of six difficult, reduce it to four, or if it becomes easy increase to six or eight.

5 Limit foods and substances that stress the body such as sugar, caffeine, alcohol, smoking, too much red meat and processed foods high in saturated and hydrogenated fats.

6 Finally, go back to basic hygiene and wash your hands in hot soapy water frequently and carry hand gel when you are out and use it after contact with others such as a handshake - and contact in public places with stair rails, lift buttons and so on.

It may all seem like a nonsense, but people have died from not taking this seriously. The good habits outlined here will help protect you, and if you maintain them you will have a solid barrier to prevent future infection.

Many people post pictures and information on social networking sites without considering how much information they are really putting online for everyone to see.

Both MySpace and Facebook have approximately 115 million monthly users. We feel we are safe on the internet because we are not face to face with others. There are dangers on these sites such as identity theft , sexual predators, to fraud. Here are a few tips on how to keep yourself protected.

1. Create a strong password. Use unpredictable phrases, letters and/or numbers. Be creative and have fun with it! [password example: @y6_gh4s6k5m0eee]

2. Set your picture and profile to private. And don't reveal your real age! This way the general public can not see your information, and only friends can see your photographs.

3. Be careful when you accept friends. If you add someone as a friend and they begin sending you spam, block or delete them immediately.

4. Most networking sites give you the option of requiring a person who is requesting you as a friend to type in a word/number code, or to know your last name. Utilize these options!

5. Be careful with any personal information you put on your profile, and don't put anything that might reveal your password! Internet predators are very good at guessing your passwords, especially if you give them information they can use. For example, don't use the title of your blog or your own name as your password!

6. Use a generic picture of something you like for your profile image. You can choose an images such as flowers, kittens, horses, butterflies or waterfalls which you think represent your personality or interest.

7. Don't trust suspicious emails. You could get an email from a friend that does not sound like them , it might not be from your friend. Someone can easily hijack your friend's account. This is often common , and sometimes with strange results. And, as a general rule, if you get notices from international lotteries, the IRS, or people from Africa trying to transfer money, these are always frauds.

8. Be careful of games and/or applications. Computer programmers are able to install malware to access your personal information.

9. Get a good antivirus and spyware program such as Norton. These are worth the money spent!

10. Be careful what you say online or in emails. Your words are potentially there forever, and may be used against you, even inadvertently. Google your name sometimes. You may be very surprised.

11. Use common sense... your very best defense.
